How good can VC be defensively when motivated?

Post#1 » by Super_Mario_3 » Mon Jul 27, 2009 5:18 am

Magic fan here. When motivated, can VC be counted on as a defensive stopper? i ask this because it seems kobe always has bad shooting games against the nets. is this just a coincidence? if not, does VC guard him really well. last season, kobe shot 10/36 in 2 games against you guys.

another thing i noticed, ray allen in his last 2 games against the nets (i didnt consider the first 2 since they were blowouts) only made 3.5 shots on only 8.5 attempts.

what do you think we can expect from VC when playing for a defensive minded coach like SVG?

thanks guys, your comments would be highly appreciated.

When VC is motivated he is pretty much good at everything. I remember there was this game, I don't remember which team it was but I think it was last year, there was 10 seconds left in the clock and we were winning by one but it was the opponents ball. One of the guys got wide open but VC did an amazing defensive play to block the shot. It was great. Anyway don't expect him to be a Bruce Bowen stopper but if he just goes all out he is a pretty good all-around player.

I think VC gets up for Kobe thats why. He isn't a defensive liability he holds his own and contests shots. He put in a lot of effort on offense for us last year because we didn't have much and still played hard on defense. Combine that with his desire for a ring and you have yourself one hell of a player. On both ends.

When fully motivated, Vince Carter can do anything he wants on the basketball court.

Bingo. I love Vince. Obviously he's starting to hit the last few productive years of his prime, but the guy is still more athletic than half the league and, when he wants to, can literally do anything he wants on both ends of the court. The fact he's playing on his first "championship caliber team" ever in his career, I anticipate he'll be motivated almost every night. Orlando will love him by season's end.

He's a really solid defensive player, even when not motivated. It's an urban legend that he is a bad defensive player. If he has one glaring fault to his defensive game, it's that he cheats waaaaaaaaaaaaay to hard on double teams and leaves shooters wide open on the perimeter, it's like he just doesn't understand the concept no matter how many wide open 3's he gives up.

We've lost to the Celtics 1000 straight times...There's no way he's talking about ray allen. Unless someone from the C's recovered the ball and scored at the buzzer.

have you not seen him play against kobe?

i recall many games where he all of a sudden looks like an nba all defensive player when he goes up against kobe.

lol on a serious note, hes a very good defender but sometimes hes lazy, but when hes motivated hes hard to score on because of his athletcism and IQ.

Damn I didn't know his number suffer so bad. But that 3/27/09 game was an away game for the Lakers and I remember Kobe geting hurt. I think he like hyperextended his knee right before the half and tried to play but wound up sitting down.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about when Carter was on Toronto, and I think Allen was on Seattle.
Because I remember that game. But if he was talking about when Carter was on New Jersey then I have no idea.
