Re: Do You Think Lebron is Coming To New Jersey?
I'm sorry, but there is no way that Joe Johnson makes us a more elite team then Lebron James, I don't care who is the better fit.
Lebron is the best player in the NBA, or at least tied for 1A with Wade and Kobe and he is the youngest of any of the elite players that will have the chance of being available.
The only player I would possibly take over Lebron is Chris Paul and then trade Devin for an upper level and young shooting guard such as Mayo, Kevin Martin, Harden, or sign Joe Johnson alongside CP3 and trade Devin for a top 5 draft pick.

Re: Do You Think Lebron is Coming To New Jersey?
This is what most likely will happen...
The Cavs will falter.. Lebron will leave
The Heat will falter.... Wade will deliberate about leaving
The Raptors will be marginal.... Bosh will wait and see what Lebron and Wade will do...
2 out of the 3 will be able to play on the same team....
The Brooklyn Nets will have a great shot.... at 2/3
Add Amare, Boozer, and a few others into the mix and this will be very interesting
The Nets and 1 or 2 other teams will score big....
I can easily see Lebron and Wade/Bosh playing together in a city neither of them has played for before for the 2010-11 season. Will it be Brooklyn? Most probably...

I don't know why LBJ wouldn't come to the Nets. Everything is in place to succed.
In 2010 the young supporting cast of players who play tough defense would be in place (Lopez, Lee, TWill, CDR) plus he'll have a star point guard in Devin Harris to compliment him. Plus we'll have two talented first round draft picks coming in (one of which could be a top ten pick).
Add in another max player like DWade, Bosh, Johnson or Amare along with the celebrity of Prokhorov and Jigga and the allure of creating a possible Brooklyn Dynasty and I don't know how he could turn that down.
His old team in Cleveland can't match what the Brooklyn Nets could provide in terms of money, marketing, supporting cast and all the other ballyhoo of the big city.

Correct me if I am wrong.
Lets say Lebron opts out and says I want to go to NJ.
Bosh says I want to join Lebron in NJ. Yeah we dont have enough cash but we have many great assets that can get a sign and trade done.
As for joe johnson, if we cant get Lebron or wade, I would rather concentrate on getting a young PF instead of going after another SG.

"Bosh says I want to join Lebron in NJ. Yeah we dont have enough cash but we have many great assets that can get a sign and trade done." S.I.C. GM
This is odd to hear from S.I.C. GM. I thought you were one of the more intelligent people on REALGM.
WE DO HAVE the money to sign TWO MAX FREE AGENTS next year so Bosh can come too.
Plus, we will have an owner who WILL GO OVER THE LUXURY TAX without thinking twice.
So what do you mean???

Do we really have enough for two Max players? I was under the impression we had enough for 1 MAX and some extra.
Are you questioning my intelligence, JKiddy? LOL.
I dont know I know I look at NetForce's spreadsheet. How much will MAX money be in 201? Correct me if I am wrong but isnt it $10+ Million?

It might be a good idea to have a clue about the salary cap before making statements like this and questioning the intelligence of others on this board.
Even if we assume a $55 million cap for 2010/11 (an optimistic projection) and you buyout/decline the options on Boone, SWAT and Dooling, you have around $25.5 million in cap space.
A maximum contract on LeBron is $16.57 million.
Unless the cap goes up significantly in 2010/11 (when all indications are that it's going to go down 5-10%), NJ isn't anywhere close to having the space for 2 MAX free agents.

That is what I thought. My impression of MAX was $14 Million plus. But that is just me. Maybe JKiddy thinks that Max is $10 Million.
That is why I said we might have to do a S&T to get another Max player.

Yeah, you'll need a s&t. Depending on where the cap lands in 2010/11, even if you were able to dump Najera, Yi and the DAL pick, you might still be a $1 mil or so short of affording a MAX player. One important thing to remember is that you have to decide on the 2010/11 options of Yi, SWAT, etc. BEFORE the start of the 09/10 season. That makes it all the more difficult for this to be a really viable option.
The MAX contract for a player varies on the amount of years in the NBA, what the player made the previous year and what the NBA cap is at. Because of what they are making in 2009/10, the MAX salary on LeBron, Wade and Bosh are the same, but the max on other top FAs (Amare, Joe Johnson, etc.) may vary slightly.
For these guys the MAX contract is 30% of the salary cap or 105% of what they are making in 2009/10, whichever total is greater.

You have to realize it is hard for Lebron to leave CLE because of the pressure. There is so much expectations to him it is hard for him to make a decision on his own. Everybody, thinks he is the next Michael Jordan which he is known as the best players that ever played the game. Basically everyone believes Lebron will be the best player in history. That is so much pressure, any rash decisions he makes many people will hate or love it. Him staying in CLE is going to be easier because everyone expect he will play there until the end. Thats why even if we have all the positves in the world in basketball, there is still less likely of any chance he will go to NJ.
vc4press-
If Lebron comes to NJ and plays with Harris it won't be a good fit because they both have the same forte; which is to drive in. So basically both needs the ball all the time to score which never works in the history of the NBA. I'm not saying Lebron and Harris can't win if they play together. They will win but wont reach expectation through the talents they have. But! i'm also not saying they can't win a championship together either however one of them have to lower there role which will be Devin Harris. He will need to play the role he played in Dallas. When you have a player like Harris you don't want him to have a lesser role because he is such a talented player. When you have your best player as a slashing scorer you need to surround him with one consistent inside scorer and the rest are shooters and maybe have a 6th man to be a another slasher but that is it. Summarizing what i say, if you have Lebron and Harris playing together, you wont get all the talents they have. So that is why I believe we have a better chance of winning the championship having Joe Johnson than Lebron. (either that or we get lebron and trade harris for a lesser value and picks)

READ MY WORDS CAREFULLY.
1) I did not put S.I.C. GM down. I was just surprised.
2) According to the chart we are going by WHICH I TRUST we have $32,037,080 before we hit the luxury tax THRESHOLD. That is enough for two max free agents. Furthermore, if the cap does go down WHICH IT MIGHT NOT (it might barely go down or stay the same) we will most likely have a new owner WHICH WILL NOT CARE ABOUT GOING OVER THE LUXURY TAX THRESHOLD. Remember you can spend more but you will be penalized $1 for every $1 you go over. For example, if we want to sign both Wade and LeBron and the only way it will work will be to go $4 million over the luxury tax threshold we will have to pay $8 million.

You cannot go above the cap by FA signings just because you want to.
The luxury tax is there to punish teams who go over the cap by circumventing it through trades.

Apart from Rod Thorn himself saying we could get two max contracts, here's where I read the breakdown of how it could happen.
http://nba.fanhouse.com/2009/09/23/prok ... s-quickly/
So there you have it. And one more thing, Lebron James isn't afraid of pressure, if he sees a better oppurtunity to win long term in Brooklyn (which it is) then he is the type of athlete who's confidence and heart wouldn't allow him to back down from the challenges of the big city and bright lights. LBJ is the type to embrace that stuff. Too many pieces fit in the puzzle for him not to come to BK.
According to figures provided by ShamSports, New Jersey is on the hook for only $18 million in salary for 2010-11. But the team has some key options it will pick up, and I'd expect (barring trades and not accounting for 2010 draft picks) the Nets will have $23 million of 2010-11 salary locked up.
If the most dire NBA projections come to pass, and the salary cap level is set at $52 million, the Nets would have $29 million of cap space to play with beginning July 1, 2010. Some expect the cap will only fall to $55 million, which would leave the Nets with $32 million in cap space.
What will rougly $30 million by you? Well, a max contract player with seven years in the league -- such candidates include LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade -- will pull up to $16 million in 2010-11 salary. Conceivably, if the cap does not fall as much as feared or if the Nets are able to jettison Eduardo Najera (who has $2.5 million in guaranteed salary for 2010-11) for an expiring contract, the Nets could be in play for two maximum contract players.

so with all the variables involved, depending on where the cap falls, draft picks, ect...we'll have between 29-32million come July 1, 2010...I voted no...its just difficult for me to believe that LJ is coming to the Nets...sorry, I want to but I just cant...
However w/ our new ownership in sight, I do become more optimistic that we can sign and land some big names...
IMO, even with Brooklyn having a good chance of becoming a reality, its all comes down to where the FA wants to play, if he wants to leave his team and what he feels is the right situation...Obviously we all are speculating, but this all comes down to where the player wants to play...and even if the Nets can offer the best deal/situation, in the end, Lebron has to want to be a Net...
Its just feels good now that we have some financial backing and Ratner out of the picture, and a possible Cuban like ownership...the door is wide open for the Nets future...at least now I can believe we will be signing some top FAs, and our rebuilding efforts will be going in the right direction...

Next year there are three guys I want
1. LeBron
2. Wade
3. Bosh
Do I think we can land two no, but a lineup of:
Harris
Lee
Lebron
Yi
Lopez
Bench: T. Will, CDR, 2010 1st, Dooling
They are legit contenders next year with a solid bench still. We need to hope LBJ will play in the swamp for a year because thats what he's gonna have to do. Harris will take to ball handling pressure off LBJ and LBJ will take to scoring burden off of Harris. Lee and Yi are the shooters to stretch the D with Lopez anchoring the D and posting up we would be unstopable.

If Lebron did coem to NJ i would agree that this team would be a contender instantlyy.. Now do i believe he would come... i would say Nj is his 2nd/3rd option. after Cleveland being number one
