Mikhail Prokhorov on 60 Minutes TONIGHT!

Post#1 » by jerseyjac » Sun Mar 28, 2010 8:43 pm

THE RUSSIAN IS COMING - Mikhail Prokhorov, perhaps Russia's richest man, discusses his planned purchase of the N.J. Nets basketball team, his vast wealth and the surprisingly unusual way he made most of his money in his first American television interview. Steve Kroft reports

I didn' watch it yet, I will though. I did read the quick write up on Netsdaily. He talks a big game so we'll see if it translates. Lebron has to sit down and at least hear what Prokhorov and Jay-Z have to say. He seems to be a very intimidating figure. We need to get this arena going already so we can get this guy approved. This is the best thing to happen to Nets basketball in my lifetime (I'm 25).

Im 24, and I have to say the best thing to happen to Nets basketball so far in our lifetime is Jason Kidd. The move to Brooklyn has guaranteed nothing other than a move out of NJ. In fact all the proposed move has done so far is made the Nets the worst team in basketball. If the Nets are able to land some really good players and win a championship or two, then I will say this is the best thing to happen to Nets basketball.

I 100% agree with this. I sometimes think about it what the Nets would be if we kept Marbury through his productive years instead of trading for Kidd and I only come up with 3 words...Oklahoma City Thunder. Kidd kept the Nets in Jersey for another decade as well as made us competitive year in year out. The stadium is big, the new ownership is big, and I consider Jay-Z big IF all that translates into either a) Lebron James or someone of that elite status or b) a title or at least a finals appearance within the next 3-6 years in my opinion.

do you guys really not have 12 minuter on your hands to watch the interview? ill try to sum it up

the start of the interview they straight up call the Nets the wost team in the NBA and they show highlites of the Nets straight up sucking ass then to Mikhail rocking a Nets training uniform which felt like we landed a huge free agent anyways.

-Interview starts off about Who Mikhail is
-goes on about how he got his riches
-him a putin bought a nickel company in a rigged auction for hundreds of millions of dollars
-Mkhail goes to france with russian models gets arrested because the french think they are prostitutes and when he goes back to russia Putin tells Mikhail to sell his shares of the Nickel company
-Mikhail sells his shares for billions of dollars
-2 weeks later(i think) the stock markets crashes
-blah blah blah HE is clearly in the mafia blah blah blah
-David Sterns evil ass in the interview talking about global partnership
-At the end of the inter they start to talk about the Nets again showing a highlite of the Nets going against The Heat when they were down 5 and Keyon Had like 5 chances to shoot the 3 and missed em all
-The Interviewer ask Mikhail on how he likes a challenge and will improving the worst team in NBA History be A Challenge
-Mikhail says"Like the Frank Sinatra song NEW YORK NEW YORK If I Make It There I Can Make It Anywhere"

i tried to do the best at summing it up i saw it last night. Its only 12 min

Nice avatar, SOUP.

The Nets are really set with this owner. These Russians, they buy a team and make it into a winner immediately!

Ok very true Kidd probably was the best thing that ever happen in my lifetime, but I guess I'm just thinking that this is going to give us more years like the years with Kidd. Prokhorov talks a big game so I was just staying optimistic that he will back it up.

Well I hope the mafia he is in isn't at war with the one Tim Donaghy was running with... Then we'd be in serious ****, the other refs in their pockets would be out for blood...

I believe a lot of millionaires of Prokhorov's level (or at least close to it) have some loose ties to one organized crime ring. I mean, the Mets gave the building contract for CitiField to a company with known links as well. In my opinion, Mikhail will fit right in with other New York teams.
