Re: Lower-Tier Free Agent PF Options
... tell me about it. I just posted like 7 hours ago. AND I've been up for 4 hours!
Anyway, Amir Johnson is not an established starter, but he'd be a worthwhile investment at $3-4mil a year. In the 5 games he started in place of Bosh this season, he averaged 18ppg, 6rpg, 2apg and 1bpg on 70%FG. I think he's really turned the corner, and his best days are ahead of him.
IMO, we don't neeeeeeeed a 38mpg starter at PF, just a very productive and reliable option, who can start alongside Brook or come off the bench. At 22 and 23 (or 27) years old, the starting spot wouldn't have to be locked in stone between Amir and Yi. Either of them is young enough to complement Brook for a long time.
As I've said before, a TPE trade for an already established PF like David West or Paul Millsap (
) would be a great use of our after-we-snag-a-max-FA capspace. But I don't just want to fill a gap with a one-year rental like Troy Murphy, who I don't feel improves any of the teams for which he plays.

Re: Lower-Tier Free Agent PF Options
On a side note how do people feel about Brad Miller?
Not as a major rotation piece, but as a cheap option to fill the bench with a every game usable rotation player that is veteran presence and knows how to win. Maybe 18mpg type.
I think he would only want to come here if we are looking like a playoff team, but I'm saying...

Bring up Brad Miller or Brandon Bass again and I'm asking Howard Mass to ban your ass.
Brad Miller's brick-laying ability when attempting layups makes Jason Collins cringe.

With Brad Miller there are countless teams that can offer him a better combination of money, playing time and playing for a contender.

Re: Lower-Tier Free Agent PF Options
I'd love Brad Miller on this team. He'd be a solid vet who can help be a leader in the locker room and back up Brook.
With that said, he'll probably get a better deal someplace else. He's near the end of his career. He'll look at deals with playoff teams before he looks at being the wise-vet helping out a bunch of young knuckleheads.
Of course if we land any combination of Lebron/Wade/Joe John/Gay/Bosh/Amare and our free agent vet bench player possibilities definitely expand.
