JR Smith

Post#1 » by Preludepunk27 » Sun May 2, 2010 1:13 am

I know I'm over analyzing the story on the front page of RealGM, but do you think Denver would bite on a deal for Smith? Would you guys want him? He doesn't really play defense up to my standards but you can't deny he is lights out from the perimeter which is where we struggle. I am a little concerned having such a young impressionable team though with this attitude.

Just wondering if you guys would want him and what you would offer? I wouldn't include any pick better than a future 2nd, but I would think about giving up either Lee, CDR or Yi with a filler player like Keyon to give them immediate cap relief.

Just curious. I'm not saying I'd do it, but he'd add something we lack and according to sham sports, is a $6.9 million expiring if we realize he won't work out.

Heh heh heh an insane me-first gunner who doesn't know when to stop shooting. Where do I sign? :eyebrows:

Realistically I wanted Smith in the past and he'd make this team better (I'd be curious to see what he could do in a full-time starting role) but this team would need an excellent head coach and FA signings in place before I'd feel comfortable with signing Smith.

*And I mean excellent in terms of leadership not necessarily overall skill, though that would help too

I wanted Smith a few years back, I used to watch him ball at St. Benedict's and wanted him because he's the home-town kid. But...he doesn't know when to not take a shot. At all. He would be fine if we had Lebron James, but we don't, and like Netsforce said, we'd need EXCELLENT leadership.

Agreed. If anything I think being back "home" will only make things worse with JR.

I disagree, I think a new coach and being near family could help him out (plus some medication). I could be wrong, but I think GK always being hardest on JR and always ripping him to the media (even after good games), just finally boiled over. Would you work hard for a guy like that? GK couldn't even be bothered to call and see how JR was when he was serving his prison sentence, while some players visited or called.

I could be totally wrong, but I think a coach who treats him at least fairly and shows he cares, will get him to return to last year's form and get him back on track to improving too.

No thanks to JR Smith.

What has the guy really done?

He cant even get into the starting lineup of a team that has always needed a starting SG.

^Nah, dude, you got to go even deeper than that.

First, we use our massive amount of capspace to lure Jay Williams out of retirement.

Next, we trade Courtney Lee for Jason Thompson. And then follow that up with a Devin Harris and Yi for the number 12 pick, Troy Murphy, AJ Price, and Dahntay Jones trade with Indiana. We then immediately send that number 12 pick to the Phoenix Suns for Earl Clark. We trade CDR for JR Smith to sure up the two guard, and we send Brook to the Lakers for Bynum to get our starting center. We also trade T-Will for Mike Bibby. Then at the draft we pick Da'Sean Butler in the second round. Finally, we sign Tim Thomas, Al Harrington, and Shaq to contracts to sure up the bench.

Jay Williams/Mike Bibby/AJ Price
JR Smith/Dahntay Jones/Da'Sean Butler
Earl Clark/Al Harrington/Da'Sean Butler
Jason Thompson/Troy Murphy/Tim Thomas
Bynum/Shaq

Now that is a New Jersey team.
