Shaq on the Nets

Post#1 » by demens » Sat May 15, 2010 8:52 pm

Its nice thats he is talking up the arena and Newark but i dont know about him signing here. I always kind of hated him anyway, but would he be ok with 13 minutes a game? Brook might learn a thing or 2 from him being around, but no way they can play together.

After watching the Shaq experiment first hand this year, and watching him destroy our team and possibly send LBJ out of town I just want to say RUN!!!!

Do not consider his past accomplishments. Do not consider what he can teach Lopez. Do not consider how many seats he will fill. He WILL hurt your team. His ego overshadows his actual skill by miles! He will NOT be happy playing the back-up role. He will NOT be happy if he doesn't get enough touches. But the thing is, he doesn't DESERVE touches. Saying he's over-the-hill would be an understatement.

Please, don't touch him. Your team has a good future, and despite some of your fans being douchebags wrt Cleveland/LeBron, I certainly do not want to see your team wrecked by him, and you shouldn't either.

There's a reason why his relationship soured with so many teams. If you sign him you'll regret it.

Don't sign the Big Noshareistotle!

He'd teach Lopez a few things but there's no way he'd settle for being a backup and / or getting limited touches with tha nets! You guys need to speed the offense up not slow it down for an old timer.

Also look at Shaq's last 3 teams Miami - Phoenix - Cleveland after that first year in Miami they've all pretty much been failures...

Shaq's always been bought Shaq not the team. Funny he doesn't get burned at the stake like Starbury did though... Speakin of Stephon I hope Lakers sign him or trade for Devin Harris...

Shaq is the absolute last player in the NBA the Nets should be thinking about acquiring, makes no sense.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

A big no no to Shaqy, if I wanted a great C from way back than to help Lopez develop I'd get Ewing.

Oh the irony if Shaq and Lebron signed here!

On a serious note, I'm not a fan of signing him now, he won't want to play the backup role and even if Lopez and him could play limited minutes together that leaves him with like a maximum of 16 to 20 minutes per game, I can't see him being happy with that or being happy with coming off the bench.

It's just Shaq being Shaq. He realized he's running out of options so now he comes knocking at the Nets. Screw you and your fat ass and mouth Shaq.

Nobody wants you.

Awesome, then the second team has shooters,. Oh, right, Lee would be a starter in your scenarior. Awesome that he's the best shooter. But that's not to say I think this team is a 2nd round out...they'd make it to the finals, though I have no idea if they would win or not. Either way, its a pretty good team.

I feel Shaq's value is far greater to us in an ownership role then on the team. He has always expressed interest in us as an ownership role when he retires. We would have the best owners in the league. Prokorov, Jay-Z, and Shaq.

I think Shaq would be more interested in buying part (by part I mean like 2% like Jaz-Z has) of the Nets if we were staying in Newark. That is where his real estate ventures are and what he wants to help. It's basically the opposite of Jay Z. Jay got into the Nets because the plan was to move to Brooklyn and he's a Brooklyn native.

Either way, I could see Shaq doing it more if we didn't have a majority owner in control of 80% of the team. I'm pretty sure Ratner didn't have 80%. Unless someone wants to sell their minority ownership, Shaq probably won't...

...but of course you never know. If we have a good offseason, the value of our team could increase like $50 million or more before our players ever step on the court.

Playing wise, Shaq would only want to play for the Nets if we were able to turn ourselves into a contender this summer. Even if he's playing in front of his home fans, he would not want to go out in mediocrity. It's not Shaq's style.
