$58.044mil Cap = TWO Max Contracts Worth of Capspace!*

With the 2010-2011 salary cap coming in about $2mil higher than many anticipated, the Nets have an intriguing amount of capspace, even without buying out or trading Kris Humphries.

By my calculations, we have $31,460,203 in capspace. As you may know, "max" contracts are different for different players. A guy with 7-10 years of NBA experience (like, say, LeBron) could make 30% of the cap, in his 1st year, or $17,413,200. Someone with less than 7 years of experience (for example, um, David Lee) can make 25% of the cap, which is $14,511,000. If you've done the math, you'll notice that it seems we're about a half-mil short. BUT, if we were to sign one of these guys, a roster hold would drop from our payroll, dropping the effective cap hit by $473,604. With that in mind, we have just enough for both ($9,607 remaining, but hey, who's counting?).

I have a feeling tomorrow will be a VERY interesting day for the Nets. Enjoy it, guys!

Great, that means we can max out both Tyrus Thomas and Kyle Korver. Maybe we can even get them to split it three ways with Travis Outlaw.

Why do Nets fans gravitate toward pessimism? BELIEVE! If things don't go our way, there'll be PLENTY of time to mope AFTER the dust settles in free agency.
