Because a championship is no reward when you pick your team for it. If you've seen Eric Williams throw the ball off of Rodney Buford's leg for a turnover then your going to value the championship when it comes.

Also the NBA is cyclical. Wins and championships trend towards money and big markets.

I still don't know how that team won 41 games.. I know Vince Carter was playing out of his mind.. but still.. We had Jacque Vaughn, Jabari smith, Ron Mercer, Rodney Buford, Travis Best and other no name players getting significant playing time.
