what this new rumor means

Post#1 » by Sharcm1 » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:06 pm

This new rumor about the nets trading 2 picks for knick players means that the knicks have one and melo will be a knick soon.

Unless the nets are totally stupid, they probably already found out that melo wants to be a knick and not a net. Because if they didn't know that already they just gave the nuggets every reason to trade with the knicks instead. First this is the best deal denver will ever get. The knicks will trade a 1st round pick, eddy curry's expiring contract, gallo, chandler, felton and mozgov with 2 first round picks to the nuggets from the nets for 2 of the 4 players. so lets say the nets have to take mozgov (which is the rumor) they should then take either gallo or felton (chandler is a free agent and will walk). that leaves the nuggets with 3 first round picks, the expiring contract of chandler and curry and the other player the nets don't take.

That's a damn good deal. I would take it If I were the nuggets.

so most likely Melo is a knick and we get mozgov and gallo or felton. Not bad for us. Hopefully we trade the lakers pick and rockets pick instead of our pick and golden states pick.

Woj says on Twitter that the Nets are simply floating that proposal to try to scare New York away from making the deal in the first place. Since they're reluctant to part with Gallo/Mozgov, they definitely won't want to see them playing across town for the Nets.

Nets want divided Knicks front office to think they'll acquire via Denver the players NY's reluctant to move for Melo. And hesitate on deal.

The Nets puncher's chance to get'Melo is muck up the waters, create chaos and steal him at end. Prokhorov wants the star -- not spare parts.

I like what we're doing here but wouldn't mind landing Mozgov and Gallo/Chandler for LAL/HOU #1's

You have to give Nets management some credit. The Knicks, with Amare, projected cap space and movable talent, are the biggest threat to the Nets building a contender through acquiring stars. The Melo situation has really come around to stress the Knicks assets.

The Nets never HAD to get Melo, but, in truth, it was never going to be acceptable for him to go cheaply to NY. As it appears a few days from the deadline, Melo wants to take the money - some insurance against the CBA - so the obvious sensible plan of signing with the Knicks as a free agent has been dismissed amid the chaos. With the Nets driving up the price for Melo over a half season, this prospective trade has come to cost the Knicks assets that would otherwise be left to complement an Anthony/Amare front court.

As it is, Denver's apparent asking price leaves New York with very little in addition to Melo/Amare. Both of them are great players, but I don't think either has the basketball IQ to lead a team to their maximum efficiency. My point is, this trade takes NY a long distance from Paul and Williams - the high IQ guards that would make the Knicks a true contender.

This better be the Lakers and Rockets 1st pick or it will be a horrible deal for us...

well said...there is always an outside chance they're able to land one of those two pgs...but as you said this Melo trade which was ultimately forced by the Nets may put them behind the 8 ball and middle of the pack in East...I still cant believe the Knicks signed off on that deal...
