It's funny that you think that because during the months of talks Lopez to Denver was actually thrown out as a possibility by the Nets as an idea starter. Denver summarily rejected it outright.

Not surprising though as fans have a habit of grossly inflating the relative worth of their players while denigrating the value of those who don't wear their uniform.

Yeah, what are you talking about? Denver assumed that Lopez was the only Nets untouchable and guess what happened when they asked about him? That assumption was confirmed.
