The Heat are proving exactly what I said before. You need big scorers who attack the basket in the playoffs. Wade and LeBron keep attacking the Celtics (and even though some of the calls were questionable), they're forcing the refs to make the call, which of course they always get
.

OJ Mayo...a change of scenery would really take his confidence to another level and help him unleash his game. He's a very skilled player and solid size at SG

Yeah, we all pretty much agree that it would be great to get him. We just need to see how much it would take to get him.

Re: Where are the SGs?
Great Post!
Sorry I am getting on here this late in the discussion.
You mentioned all the PGs.
Most of the so called PGs are really SGs. The problem is that these guys control the ball. They are a new bread of Gs. When you look at the list of all the PGs how many of them are TRUE PGs. Not many. The Majority of them are SHOOT First, SHOOT Second, PASS Third. Besides Dwill and Paul, these so called PG have lost the love of Setting up their teammates. IMO Dwill and Paul understand that they will get their shots in the flow of the game but have to get their teammates involved.
In the Ellis and Curry case, they are both SGs but dont have the Height or Build to be SGs so they are classified as PGs.
Is rose really a PG? Nah. He falls in line with AI and Starbury. A Short G that controls the ball and decides to pass when he doesnt have a shot or should I say when HE DOESNT WANT TO SHOOT. Dont get me wrong I love Rose's game, but dont be surprised that they eventually go down the road of a PG like Snow, Kerr, Paxton, Fisher or Farmar that is really only there to take open shots when Rose breaks down the defense like Kobe, Jordan and AI and passes the ball out.
This thread is exactly why I wasnt a BIG Fan of Devin Harris. He fits this mold I speak of. Like I have said before, HARRIS WAS A SG IN A PGs BODY. You see how Dwill came in here and all of a sudden he was averaging 17 assists a game. Yeah our guys werent the best but with a PASS FIRST PG they were better then what the record said they were.

If we want someone who is a high risk/reward guy, I wouldn't mind the nets making a run at JR Smith. The guy can be a head case, but when he is on, the guys is one of the best scorers in the league. Watched quite a few nuggets games and when he got playing time, he can really be a force. Not saying we throw tons of cash his way, but he would be a nice fit if the price was right.

Interesting thread.
Well, I dunno that this is some big new thing, having superstar wing players has always helped.
As far as the general trend of big time wing scorers getting bigger and being more inclined to play the 3, I'm not sure if it isn't more of an accident of time and circumstance than a lesson/principle to keep in mind while building a roster. I think true, 6'3-6'7 2s still have a place in todays NBA. Wade, Kobe, and Ray are still around, Joe Johnson, Kevin Martin, Monta, Eric Gordon are all very solid, Derozan's coming up... Gotta remember, three of this generation's best SG talents have had their prime years either taken away from them by injuries (Redd and Roy) or greatly diminished by a unique circumstance (Manu). Plus Austin Rivers is about to hit the league.

I'm not talking about the trio. I'm talking about having players that relentlessly attack the basket and draw fouls. That's the key to so many series. Jumpshooting teams always lose because there will be somedays where you can't buy a basket, and you'll have to rely on your ability to attack the basket and draw points via the FT line. Wade and LBJ always did this individually which is why they are normally tough outs even against the best teams. Now, that they're on the same team, it's a nightmare especially when they get on the break.
Also, I never said that there's no place for 6'3-6'7 SGs. I was simply saying that the primary role of scoring has now expanded from just being that of the SG to now incorporating SFs as well because there are more talented SFs in today's game that can score.
