I liked what James showed in limited minutes last year. When he was in he made little things happen with his athleticism and played pretty scrappy (steals, tips, offensive rebounds). I don't remember him hitting a single spot up J but he did have a very nice turnaround J.

Seemed like a typically rook with the requisite athleticism and desire, just needed to get more comfortable and let the game come to him.

Glad to read that MSB used to defend in High School, at least it's easier for Avery to integrate it in his game...

I'm not even sure he missed a single game in College, and he seems to have good build/body.

I would like to say the same, but it has happened before, they stay injury-free through college and enter the pros and their body just can't handle it. IIRC Greg Oden, Grant Hill and Penny didn't miss a college game, yet looked at what happened to them.

Greg Oden played 1 year of college ball, Penny played 2. DJ played full seasons (30+ games) all 4 years. That's a pretty decent track record of not being injury prone.

Also Grant Hill was rock solid for the first half of his career. He played through an injury when he probably shouldn't have and created a lot of lingering problems. That can happen to anyone. The last 4 years he's played 70+ games.

Penny was fine, until his micro surgery. That's really when it started going downhill for him IIRC. Same with Hill until his ankle injury. Oden, as has already been discussed, only played 1 year in college and even then, the doctor's already suspected a career of injury (one leg shorter than the other).

He's definitely on his way to being Kobe. A lot of points, 1 assist lol.

Just kidding....no one passes in streetball! It's funny how the Bondy criticizes Brooks for not being able to finish, even though he shot better than 50% from the field and had leg cramps during the second half of the game.

I wish there was video of the highlights on Youtube or something. I'm hungry for some summer basketball

I definitely love the state line...because it's what the Nets need at the 2 guard!

With that said, and I know this is just summer ball but:

1. He drops 48 and they still lose. Seems like he's been doing that a lot the last year. While it's great to score 48 and show people what you can do, would you rather drop 48 and lose or drop 25 and win? JKidd once claimed he could control a game and will a team to victory without ever taking an actual shot. Now, Kidd and Brooks play different positions, but I hope Brooks understands the importance of a team win over a personal win as he progresses.

2. Brooks was the #1 scorer last year in college and he's definitely the #1 scorer for his summer league team. It's safe to say at least for the next 2-3 years he won't even be the #2 scorer. How will he handle that? Will he do the little things (setting screens, crashing the boards, playing defense) to keep him on the floor? Is he the kind of guy who needs his shots early to get going or is he the instant offense, jason terry/jamaal crawford time guy who can turn it on whenever called upon?

Brooks and Jordan Williams were actually the 2 exact guys I wanted in this draft so I'm uber excited. These are just little questions I'll be examining as the season goes on for Brooks. I believe he has the potential to be a top 5 player in this draft easily if he keeps his head on straight and continues to work hard on his game.

I think you may be reading too deep into this game...after all it is a PRO AM!

We are talking basically street ball here. There was an MC with a mike and players were dancing after crossovers (had a friend who went). So I wouldn't put too much into who won and who lost.

HE scored 48! Against NBA level competition on most possessions! Jamario Moon was covering him most of the game. This is guy we took TWENTY FIFTH OVERALL IN A WEAK DRAFT!!! Avery will make him work on defense or he will not see the floor and there is no reason he cant transition seemlessly into a new system with an elite point guard and a center who often draws a double. My guess? Percentages will go up and point totals will go down. He will get better looks than maybe hes EVER had. Certainly better looks than he had at Providence.

He is exactly what we lacked on the perimeter last season.

This game means less than summer league but it still brought a smile to my face :-D

I'm not too concerned about Marshon only having one assist either, he's a scorer first, second, and third any playmaking he provides is just gravy.

Yes we are. :D

I personally felt that he fell off in the draft charts and we got ourselves a steal in the 25th.

His skills are really what we need right now. He can definitely challenge Morrow for the starting 2 spot.

However, I feel that he still has a lot of things to improve in his game. Though he's a senior, I think he can still learn a lot from Avery most notably, playing D.

He has the tools (long arms, athleticism, height) to be a good perimeter defender. He's already an offensive dynamo, what we need to see from him is how he can contribute in other aspects of the game.

Of course, being a rookie and drafted very low in the 1st round, you don't expect him to be given set plays at the get-go.

If he gets at least half of Tony Allen's crazy D, I'll be ecstatic... :P
