How would you feel about signing T-Mac?

Post#1 » by therealbig3 » Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:08 am

Say the CBA gets resolved in time for the season...how would you feel about signing T-Mac to a vet's minimum or something?

He played 72 games last season, and in the 20 games he played 30+ minutes, he averaged 13/6. He fulfills our need at SF, and if we want to put him on the bench, he's a proven guy that can run an offense when Deron needs some rest. And he can still score, when needed.

I've gained a lot of appreciation for T-Mac's career in the last few days, and looking at some of his games as a Piston, he can still clearly ball and be a valuable contributor to a team. And with T-Mac, we wouldn't have to play Outlaw.

Stop gap move, he's an upgrade over Graham and Outlaw... To fill out the roster sure why not though my expectations would be low.

Well, like I said, he's still a good player. Obviously he's not the 25+ ppg scoring machine he was back in the day...but he was always an elite playmaker with great court vision...and he still is now. In fact, his per 36 minute averages last year, aside from scoring, were right on par with the rest of his career.

I understand there's a lot of reservations about him, but we wouldn't be banking on him to be a franchise-level player...we just need a SF who can create for himself and others...McGrady does that and more...he's someone who can run the offense like a PG (he did it for the Pistons last year). And because of the reservations people have about him, we can get him for cheap. Like you said, at the very least, he's a big upgrade over Outlaw and Graham.

Also, T-Mac is still a good rebounder and defender as well...remember when we had Vujajic guarding LeBron? We would be able to stick McGrady on him.

I'd rather sign VC over TMac, but if we can't land Vince then I'd have no problem with signing TMac as long as it's for the vets minimum, why not. I have to admit he surprised me this season, he played better than I expected him to. He would bring a passing ability none of our one-dimensional wings have.

Yeah, if it was for the vet minimum I would definitely do it. But then I'd also hope that we could get rid of Trout as well somehow. If the lockout is for a full season, we should have a high draft pick and then just draft a replacement SF for the future.

Only the Trout can bring in such loyal followers.
