Proky supposedly among hardliner owners in CBA talks

Post#1 » by fefe22 » Mon Nov 7, 2011 11:40 am

Among the most intractable owners, according to sources -- Paul Allen, Dan Gilbert, Robert Sarver, Michael Heisley, Ted Leonsis, Mikhail Prokhorov (yes, him), and now we learn, Michael Jordan -- only Heisley has faced any kind of public backlash. The Grizzlies owner, who admitted last week he doesn't even know what's going on in the negotiations, has been the only one to face a potential challenge in the form of a possible lawsuit by the city of Memphis to recoup losses sustained by a prolonged lockout. Prokhorov, who according to sources is fine with a strategy that would blow up his mediocre team's last season in Newark, is lucky in that he doesn't really have a fan base to hold him accountable. But where are the city attorneys, district attorneys, attorneys general and editorial page writers in some of those other cities to ask who's going to refund taxpayer money that's funding empty basketball arenas during a canceled season?

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/16015692/for-hardliners-on-both-sides-96-hours-left-to-save-season

Proky has money and he is ready to spend to build a champion.
Wouldn't it be easier for him to do it with a soft cap?

My theory is, that he is a hardliner mainly because he want's this season to be cancelled.
Why?
For Dwight.
If there is no season, Orlando gets no chance to trade him to LA or OKC, and when the NBA restarts, Dwight is already an unrestriceted FA.
That would probably put the Nets at the number one favourite spot for landing him.

Do you guys think that there might be something to this?

I normally hate Ken Berger but that was a really great article.

Season is toast. Can't believe it's really about to happen. Makes me sick.

And Proky being a hardliner is a pretty big surprise.

I hope he's a hardliner to the current proposal though and not the obvious agenda to lockout the year and go back to an extreme hardline stance with a hard cap, etc., but that's truly optimistic thinking and even if correct as successful and smart as a business man that he supposedly is, I don't think he understands what he's getting himself into.

If anything, there's a good chance he just wants to obliterate the season in Newark, which leaves an awful taste in my mouth.

I've maintained that while everyone gets excited over this guy we have to take a wait and see approach.

This all goes back to that draft when he originally took over the Nets and seemed like a serious cheapskate and then you have to think the Outlaw contract is something that disgusts him, that he probably holds a grudge against to an imaginary foe.

There's still nothing that proves that he gives a **** about this team, about American NBA basketball and certainly about us the fans, which this team has one of the smaller more fickle bases.

This team still might be nothing more then his vehicle to financial domination of the one of the greatest markets in the world and in this country, NYC. His in to the game on this side of the pond.

Sure it was obvious that was always a major factor in any of his involvement and interest and ultimately purchase of this team, but it was yet to be seen if that was the lone factor.

We still don't know and this could definitely point towards a yes to the latter.

All of the above though... all of it... has to be taken with an enormous, Earth crushing asteroid of a grain of salt because there has been so much conflicting information and disinformation, propaganda, reverse propaganda and red herring bandied about that who knows if any of this from Burger's article is even true.

What is true is the main vibe and idea he portrays in his article.

Let the conspiracies fly.

He retracted it.

Despite the risks, NBA's hard-line owners not backing down

As the New York Times reported Friday, Bobcats owner Michael Jordan has emerged as the ringleader of this group of owners -- referred to by one source briefed on the labor talks as the "original hard-liners." Though it may be surprising to some, Phoenix owner Robert Sarver and Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert have not been as hawkish in the negotiations as they have been portrayed, two of the sources told CBSSports.com. Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, it turns out, also is not in the hawkish camp, according to two people who disputed a CBSSports.com report Sunday to the contrary. I wouldn't wager my mortgage on who's right about Prokhorov, but I would love to have him at the news conference when this is over.

"The season, it is dead. Now your families, they will one day return."

The deal is getting done this week. Mark my words...they will come to an argreement by weeks end. Also we are going to sign Nene.

Season will be over within 4 weeks max.

They aren't reaching an agreement tomorrow and then the owners proposal will get progressively worse until the players have no choice but to decertify because they have backed themselves into a corner.

That won't matter though, then this will end in a hard cap and the players will get crushed.

This has grown beyond tiresome, I wish they would just cancel the season already.
