Granger is playing some pretty damn good defense this year and he's a solid passer.
Ironically he was a pretty damn good rebounder in college but it never translated, I would imagine it's because he plays out on the 3 point line so much now and when he's in the paint he's shooting not hanging looking for the board.

But I digress, cause no, I don't think he's an All Star this year.

And yes, yes, yes, :P Josh Smith got snubbed and is better the JJ.

Rondo should probably be in there as well. Maybe Kyrie Irving quite honestly.

And when Brook and Brooks come back, still not a ton better because it's not like either of those guys gets the extra out of your other good players.

I'd say if you replaced Deron with any PG not named Rose or Paul, we'd be a 2 or 3 win team right now.

Speaking of Rondo, I'm one of those "Rondo is super overrated" guys, and I firmly believe that he doesn't really do much for the Celtics offense. I decided to look at his offensive impact this year by examining the games that he missed, just to see if he should have made the All-Star game or not.

In the 16 games Rondo has played (today's game not included), the Celtics have posted an average ORating of 104.3 against an average DRating of 103.3 (+1.0). In the 8 games Rondo missed, the Celtics posted an average ORating of 102.4 against an average DRating of 103.6 (-1.2). So overall, Rondo seems to be a net positive of +2.2 on offense. That's good, I guess, but is that really that big of a deal? That's about one extra basket per game, probably a little less.

So overall, no, I don't think Rondo deserved a spot for the All-Star game, the Celtics offense did more or less the same without him, which kind of contradicts all the praise and hype that he gets from the media.

Pierce > Rondo in terms of winning games for the team...

I'd imagine a net +2.2 on a team that talented outside of him is enormous statistically speaking, but I'm really just guessing.

This is hilarious. People are acting like the world is ending because Deron made the all star team despite the team having a losing record. Hes hands down an all star every year and arguably a top 3 PG in the game today. It would have been a disservice to NOT select him as an all star reserve. Hes having a very good season for a horrible team. Lou Williams over Deron?? Really? Lou is playing really good basketball but come on 10 times out of 10 you take Deron over Lou. Theres no debate there.

I can't believe people require a winning record just to be an all-star.

That's a good point, but then again, the Celtics offense hasn't been that good at all this year, so it's not like he's lifting a great offense by +2.2, he's lifting a mediocre offense by that much. They're 21st in the league offensively right now, even though they have very good offensive players. I think if you put other star PGs on that team instead of Rondo, like Westbrook, Deron, Paul, Rose, or a healthy Steph Curry, they'd be a top 10 offense imo.

The real issue at hand... Will Chocolate Rain get into the 3 point contest?
