The End for MarShon?

Post#1 » by Yilun » Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:13 am

Was on a tear until Brook Lopez finally came back and took a monstrous 28 FGA today against the Mavs.

What's worse, Nets actually won (well not necessarily "worse" but you guys get my drift).

Poor MarShon with a paultry 4 FGA in 33 minutes of action.

Is this a one-game fluke or is this a sign of things to come?

I'm a huge MarShon fan but if he's going to have nights like these, it's going to be a disappointment. Nets are not really going anywhere this season. MarShon was the lone bright spot on that team so far. Not that it's Brook's fault or anything... but I almost felt like he just rained on MarShon's party a bit....

He shot 29 shots in the two other games Lopez played in. But the focus on offense wasn't on Lopez like it was tonight, so maybe it's more than just one game. Regardless, I think he should be coming off the bench and leading the second unit when Lopez isn't on the floor. Not particularly a great shooter, so he's not going to benefit from playing with Lopez as much as someone like Morrow would.

Wouldn't be bad to tone him down a bit anyway. Outside of the Orlando game, he's been slumping quite badly. He's been taking way too many 3s too.

He looked a lot more passive out there than normal. I'd like to see him shoot less, because he doesn't need to do as much now with Lopez back. But I'd much rather have him create and shoot than have Morrow or Humphries or Gaines try to take their man off the dribble.

He was passing it nicely out there, he had 3 assists, including that nice alley to Humphries.

Normally, Deron would have the ball more, because he'd be playing better. But because he kind of sucked out there in terms of his shooting, we just kept feeding Lopez, and he's not really a guy who passes it out of the post, unless he's doubled.

When Deron has the ball more, I think Marshon gets more scoring opportunities.

But...but...I thought MarSHon is just a volume shooter chucker?!? The guy knows his place in an offense. If he's needed, he'll take it. Tonight, it was all about Brook.

Well said speedy. He played with in the offense tonight.... Lopez won't dominate against more physical centers... D-Will and Brook were hooking up well tonight and Avery (possibly PJ) milked it for all it was worth...

Field goal attempts is so misleading its ridiculous. What count's is the possessions and the usage rating. normally a star post scorer average about 15 FGA and about 8 FT so how many possession did he really have? Yet you can't hate on Lopez on that FGA because he shot 60%. My point is he won't take this many shots a night from no on end. He was on and you have to keep on feeding the beast. Marshon understand this and will get his time to shine as well.

I'd like to see Marshon get about 12-15 shots per game on good looks.
Main focal point of the offense is Brook Lopez.

Completely agree.

We should have him come off the bench much like Harden or Ginobli. Start Stevenson for his D.

He did not look as confident offensively, probably because he is now the 3rd or 4th option.

There goes my fantasy team with MarShon, LOL. Perhaps I should have traded him before Lopez came back :)

Are people really complaining about a WIN because Brooks didnt get as many offensive looks with Lopez being back to the main option?

really? REALLY?

Broosk has been the only brightspot to the season? even if that was true to an extent you know what would be a brighter spot? Winning some games! on a consistent basis! That would be a bright spot. I don't really find it all that encouraging that Brooks was racking up good offensive numbers and usage rates on an 8 or 10 win team all year. The last thing i want my rookie to be brought into is a losing enviornment where what matters is getting his 15+ points.

Everyone should be on cloud 9 now that Lopez is back and brooks can start developing his game around a real offense where there is actually a post threat. He needs to get acclimated to playing the game when there are other options on the floor, because he will never be on a winning team otherwise.

I look forward to watching brooks grow and contribute and start playing winning basketball(not that he was being selfish before). I would think his learning curve will be much shorter than had he played a season where all he was asked to do was fill it up.

As far has him coming off the bench. i dont want that. he already has some turnover issues, i dont want him coming in and gunning ala jr smith or crawford. id rather him start and work within our offense
