Top 10 memorable games as a Nets fan

Post#1 » by brick_wall_55 » Thu May 24, 2012 10:44 pm

Now that the Nets are officially out of New Jersey, I decided just for the hell of it to put together a ranking of my ten most memorable/favorite games of the Nets while they were in Jersey. (if anyone else wants to give their own list, I'd love to see it). I'm a relatively young fan, so I've only been a "die-hard" as they say for about 14 or so years; nothing prior to '98 will be included on my list for that reason. I don't know if anyone will follow this or not, but I guess I just want to do this for myself because it's a good way to reminisce some of my favorite memories as a fan. All games on my list were NJ wins...

Some of the games that didn't make my list which I think deserve honorable mentions include:
- Game 3 of the '05 first round against the Heat, Nets vs. Suns 2OT game, Nets final game in NJ, 3OT Thunder loss, VC gamewinner in Utah, 3OT win in London vs. TOR, Rodney Rogers GW shot, Farmar GW 3-pointer, Game 4 of 2002 ECF @ BOS to even up series at 2, Game 1 of 2003 ECF (Jason Kidd gamewinner), Devin Harris "Thank you Cuban" game with Kidd's return, Krstic perfect 11-of-11 from field, Kendall Gill triple double with steals.

I'll do the first game of my ranking now, still deciding on the rest of the order.

#10 Game 82 of 2004-05 Regular Season - Nets @ Celtics
This was possibly the most underrated Nets win I can remember. Understandably so too; the Celtics had already wrapped up the 3rd seed in the conference and had very little motivation or need to win this game. However, it was important a game as the Nets have ever played.

The setting was basically this: the Nets and Cavs were tied for the 8th seed with one game left in the regular season for both teams. Following Cleveland's victory in Toronto, the Nets needed to beat Boston on the road to make the playoffs (they had the tiebreaker). Despite trailing by as many as 19 in the first half and 11 at the break, they were able to lock the C's down defensively in the 3rd, outscoring them by a whopping 24 points in the quarter and cruising to a win. This capped off a stretch where the Nets had won 15 of their final 19 games of the year despite a painfully slow start to the season prior to the Vince Carter acquisition. The game was essentially a microcosm of the Nets' 2004-05 season, starting off sluggish and finishing strong.

I've always said that if this team had Carter from the start of the year and Jefferson did not go down with his wrist injury, it could have made a deep run into the playoffs this year, and probably could've easily finished as a top 3 seed in the east. It just so happened to run into the greatest Heat team ever assembled (yes, better than their championship team) in the first round, and as a result it was a lost season. Still, the fact that the Nets made such an incredible rally that year to clinch a playoff berth speaks volumes about what the team was made of, so it's in my top ten.

Have your pick at whichever thread you'd like this topic to be added to, but we've kinda already gone over this in these two topics, so it probably should be merged:

My favorite game was the triple overtime against the Pistons eastern semi finals. Done

Eh, it's fine I don't really want to hijack the thread with a big list. Thanks though. I'll stop posting in this thread.

But yeah, the Pistons win was my second favorite behind the Pacers Game 5.
