WHY would Lopez agree to a trade???

Post#1 » by magic111 » Mon Jul 9, 2012 7:34 am

So im wondering why Lopez would even agree to take less money and play for a losing team...instead of taking MORE money and playing for a playoff team? He has full control over his situation? Thougths...is he stupid or something??? I don't get it

Because he either signs with another team for less money or he waits and plays this out with the hopes that the Dwight deal doesn't go through and he gets more money from the Nets.

Either way, no matter what he does, he's getting a 4 year, 58 million dollar deal or a 5 year year one. Does the ability to choose your own team outweigh playing ball and having the possibility of getting more money? Doubtful, so he's willing to suck it up and go to Orlando, but really wants to stay and get more money.

This is assuming that he does not want to go to Orlando, of course.

Well.. Let's jsut say that Devean George was not popular in Dallas, when he blocked the Kidd trade.

I know that Brook is more popular in Brooklyn, compared to George pre-NODEAL - but still...

Lopez would get a 5 yr deal if he stayed in BKLN...Bklyn will give him that if he does not agree to the Dwight trade...which is why it does not make any since to me why he would agree to the trade? He will make more money and play for winner for the first time....Bkln will give him the 5 yr deal...if he says no to the trade...guy went to Stanford, you think he would know better

First off, he's going to be on the Nets if the Dwight trade doesn't go through no matter what. And, if he waits and plays this out, holding his mouth, the Nets will give him a max deal. If he rants and raves, like it seems that you want him to do, the Nets could offer him a 4 year deal and say "**** you," and then what is he to do? Go out and sign a contract with a new team for the Nets to just match? That's not good business. It's better for him to play ball with the Nets and keep his fingers crossed that the Dwight deal falls through, because if it does, the Nets will reward him.

Remember this thread?

And in that thread, I realized JDRoma was waived... When did that happen?

For one reason, and one reason only.

Not really my concern, but it makes no sense to me that Lopez would get less money in a sign and trade to Orlando than staying with the Nets.

That's not the way the CBA works, so if it's true, it's only as a negotiated fact in his particular case.

Actually, that's exactly how the CBA works....

i was under the impression that the reason for a sign and trade was so that the player could still get the benefits of signing with the team who has his bird rights? I thought the CBA only made it so that in a sign and trade only half of the salary counts toward the outgoing salary?

The new CBA basically eliminates bird right signings during a sign-and-trade. If Lopez is sign-and-traded, he will only get a 4 year, 58 million deal, not a 5 year deal.

:D :D :D :o Anybody ever consider that in order to get Howard now from Orlando, that BROOK Lopez is the center the Magic want and with all the teams /players/3 1st round picks that Orlando with Lopez is going to be a team on the rise in the eastern conference.. This deal is close and I can see why Brooks would go there. Maybe a promise for a contract extension. Whats the differnce between 4 mil and 12 mil a year only if you have to wait as the Magic get better and better? Also the Taxes are better in Florida? And theres Mickey?

He probably gets 3M more than what is his market value - as that is the sum Nets are allowed to send in cash with him in a trade. Other than that it is just normal FA signing so why not, I guess. His new team is not sending anything back and he is still free to choose whether he wants to go there or not before he signs that off.
