question for nets fans

Post#1 » by brigadierjerry » Wed Nov 28, 2012 6:08 pm

knick fan that comes in peace:

first of all credit for ur team for beating my team the other day. will be interesting to see both teams as the season goes along and if both happen to meet in the playoffs.

my questions is as follows:

considering how well ur team has played so far what are ur expectations for the team this year outside of winning a chip? would conference finals or semi finals be satisfactory?

also since the standard is miami do u feel this team can as constituted give miami a hard fought playoff series going to 6 or 7 games?

Mikhail Prokhorov stated that reaching the Eastern Conference Finals will be seen as a success this season. I personally think the season will have been successful if we were to get to the second round.

As for Miami, they're still a much better team than we are and we'd probably maybe win 1 or 2 games at the most in a series against them. We need to improve our PF position, but more importantly Joe johnson HAS to play at an all star level if we want to beat the Heat.

Fans expectations: 1st round or 2nd round

The team expectation: Championship

Front Office expectation: Eastern Conference Finals/NBA Finals

Realistically: 2nd round

Everyone has to be healthy and extremely productive for it to happen and very well established on defense (we're making progress on that end) and most importantly, proper coaching...Which we don't have.

Boston got to the ECF by having home court advantage against a easy first round team like Atlanta then got lucky by facing Philly instead of Chicago in the 2nd round. So, I think we could get past the 1st round this year and make the ECF IF we are playing at the highest level and with a Top 3 record.

I think we have a good shot right next to Boston, NY if we get it together which we have not at all yet.

philladelphia assuming no bynum
knicks assuming stat and shumpert back
boston
pacers assuming granger back
hawks
milwuake
chicago assuming rose is back during year

With home court I'd expect to beat every team in the East outside Miami.

I don't care if Bynum is healthy, or Rose is back or Granger is back or Stat and Shump.

To me we're the 2nd to 3rd most dangerous team in the East once in the playoffs, something of a toss up with Chicago or Boston depending on who has home court.

But I could see losing to Chicago or Boston if we had to face them on the road if they were healthy.

New York and Indiana don't scare me quite frankly, although I think both are mid 40's to low 50 win teams.

Everyone besides Boston and Chicago maybe. Only because both teams have experience and we aren't experienced together yet.

Thanks for the peaceful greeting. If only this happened more regularly, there'd be a better relationship between both fanbases lol.

Now regarding your question, I personally think that if everyone plays to their potential (which is a bit unrealistic) or a notch below (which hopefully is likely), we should definitely be able to make it to the 2nd round. As currently constituted, I'd say our max (if we're all playing like we should) would be darkhorse ECF, but again that all hinges upon how well we jell together.

We need JJ to play well in order for us to be a serious playoff threat (but not true contender).

I would be satisfied with a hard fought 2nd round matchup loss to a better team.
The season would be considered successful, if we made it to ECF.

Anything less than being in the 2nd round is a failure.

Again, this all depends on how well we jell come the end of the season.

If we are playing at the top of our game, we should definitely beat Philly, Hawks, Milwaukee, and Chicago (esp. considering that Rose won't be healthy come playoff time).

And given the same 'maxed out potential' premise, I think we have the ability to beat the Knicks (no offense), Pacers, and Boston. It all depends on how well we jell and how well the opposition is playing.

I will say this about the Knicks though. IF they can keep the defense the way it was at the beginning of the season and still manage to pass the ball quickly and efficiently with Amare back, they will be a tough out.

We don't know how healthy or how good Shumpert will be returning from injury, and he's pivotal to wing defense for you guys.

I know it may sound pejorative but when Amare comes back, he needs to just fit in and not worry about getting his. If he tries to go out and "get his", it will bring trouble back to the offense.

With just Melo on the floor, everyone knows who option #1 is and there's no need to worry about sharing the ball or Melo getting touches just to get back in rhythm. However, if Amare comes back and he feels like he needs 15 shots per game and 20-25 touches, that could mess up your synergy.

Welcome to the nets board brigadierjerry, always good to converse with another teams fans without any hostility in the post at all.

I could answer this one being an international fan an all.

Basically the Nets are pushing the brand international in a big way. It started with the international games in London vs the Raptors where the nets were getting their name out in loads of national uk papers and showcasing the NBA.

Even locally Brook Lopez was in Northern Ireland visiting trying to get different groups of kids from both sides of the religious divides to play together, again promoting the game.

Jay Z toured the world with Kanye West in the watch the throne tour and everywhere he goes he wears a Brooklyn Nets hat which again promoted the team. I actually saw them in Dublin with a group of friends and now everyone of them own a Brooklyn Nets hat purely because they saw Jay Z wear 1 and though it was cool. They had no clue who the Brooklyn Nets were until they bought the hats but now they know about the team.

It's basically the same idea as the Yankee hat, you see them all over the uk but 95% of people have no clue it's a baseball teams hat, they just think its a NY for New York hat and that's it.

It just shows that the clothes, hats and jerseys etc are actually transcending away from basketball and into the fashion side of things which is huge.

The Nets also do a lot of work promoting the team in Russia and all over Europe so they are making big gains.

It's all through smart marketing involving the 'cultural icon' Jay Z and great branding but the team is going international.
