3 year plan. 1- win division. win playoff round. 2. eastern conference finals. 3. serious contender. if anyone thinks this is a championship team RIGHT NOW is fooling themselves. i hear people say the window is closing. IT WAS NEVER OPEN!!

the poor decisions of the GM has doomed any coach to a 1st rd exit with this group, IMO.

We won't be a contender because we have Johnson and Wallace destroying our cap.

Also even with if they hire Shaw or Kidd the Nets and the Knicks will probably be battling for 4th in the East, behind the Heat, Pacers and possibly the Bulls. What do you think the Nets philosophy as far as the type of team that Kidd would want the team to be? As a Knicks fan if Kidd is hired over Shaw is the Nets thinking more along the lines of making the Nets more of a more interesting team that more people will talk about or be more interested than the Knicks?

The bottom line whether the Nets or the Knicks it comes down to results. In my opinion this 1st year for the Nets in Brooklyn was a honeymoon affair. I think starting this coming season most Nets fans want to see more results.

I see this working with Kidd only if the assistants are very good ones. This will be similar to what Larry Bird was on the Pacers. Dick Harter was the defensive coach for the Pacers and Rick Carlisle was the offensive coach and those Pacers teams during Birds run was good 58-24 first year 33-17 lockout year and 56-26. All of those 3 years the first 2 they lost in the Conference Finals and his last year they lost in the Finals in 6 to the Lakers. That would be what Kidd would have to strive to be successfull as the Nets coach in my opinion.

Those guys are pretty slow over there...Real GM beat them on reporting the news to NYC area fans.

You havent posted here before so I will repeat my core thinking. I dont think the assistants matter all that much because I dont think the head coach matters all that much for this group. I agree with who the top 3 teams in the conference are at this time and we arent one of them. We are perfectly built to the middle of the pack with a ton of bad contracts. Baring a lopsided trade in our favor with Hump, picks and prospects...I dont think there is anyone who can make that massive of a difference. For all the ripping we did on PJ or Avery...deservedly so...I think the issues like more with our superstars than anything else. We will go as all NBA teams go...as far as your stars take you. Will Lopez go from the most impressive offensive big man in the game "sometimes" to a cant be stopped focused beast? Will Deron make better decisions with the ball? Will he come into camp in the best shape of his life instead of playing his way into it and crap away half a season? And will their play translate into something of quality from JJ, Crash and whoever the hell we get to play the 4? I am not as worried about bench guys...or the coach. Not dismissing their value. Just saying...if the most important guys arent getting it done...you cant offset that with coaching and role players.

The Knicks are a perfect example to me. Their bench was older than dirt. Their second biggst name was a non factor all year and Chandler was inconsistent in his contributions. But Melo had a career year. The top of your team got it done and that hides other issues.

We need the same.

It's official, Jason Kidd will be our new head coach.
