Re: ESPN player rankings: Nets players
espn has carmelo at #14... which is going to be lower then paul george.
what a complete crock. at this point, you have to conclude they are simply trolling. melo 3rd in mvp yet george is ahead of him?
ive never seen a player so hyped, in any sport in my life. you would think the dude was the second coming of jordan

They said the rankings are all about looking forward and who will have a better season this upcoming year.
So yeah, they must believe George is going to take a monstrous step forward. It's crazy.
I laugh whenever people say "Well, now you need a perimeter defender for the LeBrons, Durants, Melos, and Georges of the league"...LOL, Paul George doesn't compare as an offensive player to those guys. He's a very average offensive player at this point in his career.

yeah, i dogged someone for that very thing on the general board saying we will struggle cause we cant defend wings like lebron, melo, and george... lol.
projection based or not. paul would have to have one of the single greatest jumps from year 3 to year 4 that we have seen in the past 20 years to compare to what carmelo was last year and should conservatively be this year. they are basically saying george is an mvp candidate and player who can carry you to championship contention as your #1 guy. im not sure he is even the best player on his team

because he is likely to be the better player this season.
this is kyries third year, if he ever makes a jump, looking historically, it should be this season. we dont even know when dwill will start the season

I'm a strong believer that you're not a top 10 player if you never made the playoffs ( not just Kyrie i'm also looking at KLove ) in Kyries case he hasn't even played a full season yet.

Re: ESPN player rankings: Nets players
D Will could be a MVP candidate this season if he's healthy. He has an amazing roster and the right coaching system this year. As long as he stays healthy, he should have a great year. That is a big if though.DrazenForThree wrote:De8 wrote:i do not understand how kyrie irving is in front of D WIll

Re: ESPN player rankings: Nets players
These rankings are just straight up garbage in all honesty. There is no way Carmelo, Blake Griffin, Duncan and Wade should be behind Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love and I'm a love fan.
In terms of the D-Will rank I'd say he should be ahead of Horford. You can't tell me D-Will, who ranked 13th in scoring overall, 5th in assists, isn't better than Horford and considering they equate future projections, a healthy D-Will with this roster can be an MVP candidate which even their own employees have acknowledged, so I don't get it.

I saw Al get dominated/outproduced by Ike Diogu last summer when Nigeria eliminated the D.R. IKE DIOGU (shout out to E) It was an embarrassing display.
this list is for the nba. what happend in nigeria is pretty irelevant. and ill take horford over bosh, hibbert, and lopez 100 times out of 100.
LOL, of course you would. You're my boy blue, but you're trying too hard.
Horford is one of the best role players in the league, but to take him over any of those 3 is insanity.

I don't see how pointing to someone's international play is valid, since it's their production in the NBA that matters. Al Horford is an excellent player who is a double double machine and plays very good defense. He's not really close to being a superstar, so top 20 probably is overrating him, and he's not elite at any one thing, but he's very good at pretty much everything.
He probably should have been top 25 in our list now that I think about it.
Horford is a great role player, that is what he is, maybe the second best role player in the league after Garnett.
I don't love pointing to international play, but truthfully it's embarrassing getting shat on by some of the scrubs he was and it has to count for something.
He has little post game, can't create his own shot and his offense is so awful when pressured in the playoffs that his passing becomes almost nonexistent because he never requires a double and is locked down by a solid man defender.
He's a great defending, very good rebounding, jumpshooter with a touch of post game and some solid but not great pick and roll ability who's a very good passer for a big man but can't take advantage of that skill in big situations because he's so easily contained.

not only does he pass the eye test with me but he is an advanced stat player. his usage rate and his assist rate are almost identical for one thing. he is also an elite defender. ball sharing/playmaking and defending lead to winning. oh and his true shooting percentage is at the same level as melo's. if you like pierce's game from certain criteria then you have to like paul george's game.
it's a new day in the nba.

Paul George is an elite defender.
But he's not a good playmaker/ball handler/passer. Once he needs to create off the dribble, he becomes a TO machine. And at least last season, he was super-dependent on his 3pt shot with no midrange game. The preseason so far has shown that he does have a nice midrange game now, but only time will tell if that's for real.
His TS% is the same as Melo's (not really, Melo actually had a clearly higher TS% during the RS), but Melo does a lot more self-creating and he faces way more defensive attention. He's also pretty good at taking care of the ball, considering his USG, better than George for sure.
I like Paul George a lot, the 4th or 5th best SF in the game, but he's not a star offensive player, not really close tbh. He's a fantastic defensive player for sure, but when you're a perimeter player and you're being compared to offensive stars like LeBron, Durant, Melo, and even Pierce, then unless you're a prime Scottie Pippen or a LeBron on defense, it's really hard to offset that impact. Especially since you could make a strong argument that George looks better than he is because of Hibbert.

but this isnt the hall of fame commitee.
NBA player rankings should be based on play in NBA games.

He certainly doesnt pass the eye test for me. fumbling the ball left and right and pretty useless in the half court if he isnt shooting a 3. as far as advanced stats:
16.8 PER
53 TS%
104 oRTG
15.2 TOV%
those arent exatly great advanced stats. They certainly arent top 10 player in the NBA type stats. Those are like Rudy Gay on a bad day kinda stats. and you dont want to be rudy gay on a bad day.
