I think the defense will even out considering the fact that Terry is an even worse/uninterested defender than Deron. I think we'll be about the same or slightly worse defensively but a LOT better offensively.

We are 7-9 without dwill(not great but better then with him thus far). we have a higher Ortg and dRTG without him.

i dont think its a given we are much better offensively.

WITH Deron

Offense: Pts per 100 Poss.
109.0
Defense: Pts per 100 Poss.
108.6

WITHOUT Deron

Offense: Pts per 100 Poss.
103.7
Defense: Pts per 100 Poss.
111.3

You're right, we are better offensively without him despite dropping 5 points per 100 possessions when he's not on the court....

is that this season or career? when i looked it up earlier it was nearly reversed.

Wow, look at that, we're better defensively with Deron too.

This season Per 82games.com. It was last updated 4 days ago so the Hawks game wasn't accounted for, but my point still stands. We're much better with Deron offensively.

appearantly we are. although, id like to see the splits for this current team with dwill vs this current team without dwill. i know a few of the games he missed early on pierce/KG/kirilenko missed in addition.

either way, im not excited for his return. i dont see us winning much with his defense on the floor

But our defense also gets better with him...

Clearly, this means you also overestimate the hell out of how much he hurts us defensively, in addition to how you underestimate how much he helps us offensively.

seeing how well the team started to play after the new year with Deron, and how great they're playing now with him... I STRONGLY believe he's going to elevate his play due to how everyone is playing around him.

Even if D-Will actually sucks defensively, PG defense doesn't matter anywhere near as much as C defense.

It's expected that PGs and SGs get caught in picks routinely but if your big man rotate and trap well, you can still prevent the team from scoring.

But if your big misses rotations and can't deter the opponent from drive penetration, you'll give up layup after layup and teams will abuse you by putting you in 1-5 PnRs all day.

D-Will's defense has little to do with the effectiveness of the overall team defense.

This. Besides, D Will's defense is inconsistent. He's not Steve Nash on defense, he's capable of very good 1 on 1 defense in certain matchups but he struggles a lot getting around screens, and the pick & roll. Fortunately, with KG now at C, we have one of the better bigs in the league at handling the P&R, as opposed to Brook who struggled a lot with P&R.

There is no such thing as as a defensive stopper at PG in this league anymore. It's by far the deepest position in the league and no one stops anyone. Every PG gets torched routinely.

i understand PG isnt as important as it once was... nor is man to man defense. but to imply tis simply negligible is just silly. KG does a great job on the PnR. but that is hindered when williams cant hold his end. williams might be the worst pnr defender among starting gauds in the league. and its much hard to trap and hedge as a big when the gaurd has space and a full head of steam.

we are going to get worse defensively when he comes back. thats almost a certainty.

Missed the last couple games, I think. Has Livingston still been balling?

yeah he's been doing great. He's playing very smart and with more confidence. He plays good defense and doesn't force shots. He recognizes his matchup opportunities and defers to Johnson and Pierce quite often to let them take over. He's been playing very well.
