"haters".
Listen...the guy is playing well, especially after he was embarrassed by John Wall. I'm just not one to give kudos for 15ppg 6apg production from a max contract player. It's not acceptable.
Wake me up when he's posting 19 and 10.

Maybe it wasn't the case earlier in the season, but watching the guy play now, it's clear he could put up A LOT more production if he needed to. He's sacrificing his numbers for the sake of the team. I thought that was something to be lauded?

And Deron is still a guy who on any night or for a stretch of 10 to 20 games can legitimately play and produce like a top 5 player in the league.
I completely get the frustration and a lot of the criticism about him in general and in relation to his contract and his often standoffish attitude, but it just gets so over the top and biased to the point many of you just sound like straight up haters who throwaway all context, statistics and even the eye test relegating all his positives to not even exist.
Lastly, to me Deron is a player a lot of other stars would love to play with. His level of play, his style of play, the way he wants to dominate when he's feeling it, yet wants to blend in and defer to be the #2 guy who runs an offense well and can pour it on but wants to let a guy like a Durant just go to work and beast while making said player better, who wants to feed his big man in the spots he needs to be successful and effective, to get his shooters wide open looks not only off drive and kicks where he collapses the D, but simply QB'ing and setting up hockey assists.
Injuries have taken their toll and probably overall in a sense Deron had become a little overrated, but he's still a helluva player.
maybe he is still top 30, but i would strongly disagree he is a player anyone would want to play with. I mean guys see a player who has done nothing but underachieve and struggle with injuries since coming here. i dont see how thats attractive. and its not like he is a leader or super competitive.
im not saying guys DONT want to play with him, but i dont think he is someone guys would want to play with either.
i mean there are 10 other PGs i think people would prefer to play with

As much ISO as this team plays 10 assists would be very difficult to get.
Also I disagree that stars wouldn't want to play with Deron. The ball doesn't stick with him as much as it does with other players. He is really a pass first point guard.

Re: Rank our top 5 players this season
The way this team is set up, there's simply no way for Deron to get 19/10 type big numbers. He's sharing the ball with other ball handlers a lot, and he has been very much a facilitator when he has the ball. We have four ball handlers in our starting lineup. So you could complain all you want about Deron, but realize this that if you're asking him to put up big numbers on average, it's something impossible to do.
The Celtics game before tonight, Deron only had 6 points and 6 assists in 25 minutes, but no one can really say that he didn't play well. He did exactly what he was supposed to do, the game didn't call for him to put up big numbers.

Did you not read his post? He's saying that the style of play Deron plays is very appealing to stars and other players. He's constantly trying to put his teammates in good positions to score the ball. He can also score the ball himself well when he's on his game, so he's not one dimensional.Prokorov wrote:vincecarter4pres wrote:He's still been at worst a top 30 player IMHO, to get into arbitrary rankings and numbers.

The leadership issues have some definite substance to them, but I would say that I've seen Deron's body language/attitude improve our recent run. He's saying the right things and he's playing the right way. His defense has improved a lot compared to what it was before. As for injuries, they're uncontrollable.
