but we really dug in and the bench gave us huge minutes in the second quarter, especially with plumlee and pierce getting in foul trouble. Joe Johnson was also great in that 2nd quarter... once smith wasnt on him he got aggressive and bullied smaller defenders in the post for easy scores... the joe of last year would have never woken up after a slow first.
glad to see williams bounce back with 10+ assists after 0 against the knicks. good game for him. his offense was ugly early but he got others involved and competed on defense. which im happy with
Pierce was good and hit some key 3's in the third to help rebuild the lead... i do wish he would cut down on all the really poor turnovers. i mean he looks like a HS kid sometimes with this careless cross court passes
great win. we need to come out and win again. back to back is not an excuse after you rested starters and play a crap team
The bench is the same squad which turns our 30 pt leads into 8 point leads, this is not the first time they did it either. We were blowing them away and they came back in it.
and the bench helped build that very same lead with mirza and thornton raining threes a period earlier. and even when pierce and livingston came back in, the bench trio they were with still continued to play really well.
you cant throw out 5 bench guys, including your #13 and #14 men on the roster (collins, gutiuerez) and just expect to keep clicking like clockwork. i mean you have your 4th string center and 3rd string PG on the floor against their starters.
the bigger issue isnt the bench, its the shot selection. when you are up big in the 4th its not the time to start going YOLO and jacking up 3's with 20 seconds remaining on the shot clock.
and if you want to keep that lead maybe keeping your 12th and 14th guys off the floor would be a good idea. what was gutierez like -13 in 6 minutes? and thats not fault of his own, he was a 10-day contract guy. i just think its silly to hate on the bench for blowing a lead they help build and when 4 out of 6 of them had a great +/- (+14,+13, +7, +6)
not only did the bench not play poorly, they played GREAT. And for anyone to hate on them seems off base. ESPECIALLY considering how many minutes they were asked to play, and how much time we spend with 5 bench players vs. 5 pistons starters.
most teams arent going 12 deep. when you do there are going to be some runs where they dont play great.
