Try 'em both during pre-season. The one who works best with the team gets the starting nod.

TOR: Johnson/Valencinuas/Nugueria

MIA: Bosh/Anderson/McRob

CHA: Zeller/Jefferson

ATL: Millsap/Horford/Payne

Alot of these teams will have bigs that are an inside post presence or rebounding presence.

Even if Mason and Brook aren't terrific rebounders, size still matters. We will flat out get killed if Mirza's shot is off. He will not be able to contain a Gasol, Bosh or any big that can use their size and strength on him.

Starting Mason at PF is starting to look like a better idea. If Brook played the majority of 2013 next to Reggie Evans, I don't see why he can't fit next to Plumlee who is a much better finisher than Reggie Evans and a better foul shooter. Plumlee also got to the line alot last season where as Mirza still hasn't developed a steady diet of outside shooting/free throw rate. Add Anderson in the starting lineup to spread the floor and I'm taking my chances with the Plumlee/Lopez combo.

the east going bigger for me is all the more reason to go smallball/stretch 4.

make them adjust to us instead of just trying to minimize their advantage

Lopez is one of the best bigs in the East, when healthy, despite what you say. We should encourage teams to go big because it plays to our strength. The last thing we want is a small ball 4 like Melo, Lebron or George running PnR with the 5. Once Lopez switches to one of these guys you can pretty much chalk up a foul on Lopez and FT attempts to the offense.

I want to see what Mirza can do with consistent minutes, if not starting. However, I question his fit with Lopez defensively and rebounding wise.

On the flip side, KG at this point is atrocious inside. Having him on the same lineup as Mirza would give us little to no scoring punch at all. From this perspective, the inside/out threat of Lopez/Mirza (and to lesser extent Plum/KG) makes more sense.

I'd actually like to see Mirza in the post more often, he's not huge but he's crafty and has proven in international play he can score down there.

The three-point shot will forever be his bread and butter but I think he can be better utilized, and is more than a spot up shooter.

You know, on second thought...I'm kind of curious of a frontcourt of:

Bojan/Mirza/KG

Put Bojan in the post, and Mirza/KG to space the floor.

The East has definitely not gone bigger. That Paradise post shows how little the East has changed in terms of big men. The only real change was Gasol to the Bulls - who may primarily play C if they intend on playing their stretch 4 Mirotic. McRoberts to the Heat means their going to play Bosh at 5 a lot. Outside of that, everyone you mentioned are rookies who may not play much and scrubs like Hump/Haywood.

Definitely neither.

Plumlee doesn't have a jumpshot (AT ALL) & struggles in the rebounding department, just a really bad fit next to Brook,

And Mirza offers very little beyond his streaky shooting to be given a bigger role than the one he had last year (~20mpg coming off the bench).

KG is the hands down best option. He is still a far superior defender & rebounder to Plumlee & Mirza & is a threat from midrange. Also, KG commands tons of respect, he's not getting benched by an old school coach like Hollins, let alone for those guys, come on now. KG-Lopez is the way to go. I'll be shocked if they aren't our starting frontcourt.

exactly. if you're looking for a prototype PF to play next to brook, it's KG, even at 38 yrs old. good defense and a jump shot

Brook and KG looked terrible on the floor together.

I honestly think that KG should start at C. Brook should be his backup. 23 minutes for KG, 20 minutes for Brook, 5 minutes for Plumlee.

When Brook and KG get their days off, Plumlee can be our primary backup C.

Well, Brook and KG only played 15 games together, and we were 7-8 during that time. Both of them looked quite bad defensively, and KG couldn't hit a shot.

But Garnett got way better as the season went on. The Garnett from later in the season next to Brook probably would have done a lot better as a PF.

And a 7-8 record isn't that bad anyway, people are acting like we were 2-13 when they played together.

If Garnett starts at Center then Plumlee. If Brook starts at Center then Mirza.

I'm starting to come around the idea of Garnett starting and having Brook come off the bench as the primary offensive threat in the second unit. Brook would still play 25-30 minutes a night with garnett getting 15-20 and plumlee getting the rest. Garnett/Plumlee would be the better defensive duo which will be needed against starting lineups. Brook and Mirza will be fine getting a bulk of their minutes playing against backups. Joe and Deron are good enough to carry the offense for the first 6-7 minutes of the first quarter.
