It's honestly perplexing to me how bad his basketball IQ is. European players are supposed to have good fundamentals, his basketball instincts are worse than a high school player. I really hope Willie Reed can get healthy soon so Bargnani can get the DNPs he deserves.kerry kittles wrote:DarkXaero wrote:That didn't last very long, did it? He's absolutely awful. After showing glimpses of his talent with the first game, he has been getting worse and worse with each game. Waste of roster space out there.
He's got **** for brains. Doesn't know how to rotate defensively, can't provide a kick it help defense, gets called for a number of moving screens.
He can hit a midrange J but he's running around like a chicken with his head cut off the rest of the time.

This was my problem with the Barf contract from the start. We gave him a player option for next year. If he's terrible from here on out and opts in next year we either have to have him eat one of our roster spots or we waive him and we have $1.5 million less to offer free agents. I understand that's not a huge number in the grand scheme of things, but I don't think it's a wise decision to cut into cap space regardless of how much it is.
There was only one team interested in him - Sacremento which made less sense if he wanted to "revitalize" his career as they have more front court depth. He wanted to stay in NY and he wanted more playing time. Who were we bidding against? It's just another example of King wanting to make the other party feel good, outbid himself.
Personally I wouldn't have signed him, but if we were too we should've gave him a one year contract take it or leave it.

Billy King needs to be fired. He wasted a roster space on this dude when we could have kept Harper.

He's still only a vet min contract. He wouldn't be playing if there was actual talent on this team and Hollins didn't play favorites.

Re: The Official Andrea Bargnani Thread
Sooooo... Is Bargnani putting up monster numbers as a starter and winning games for the Nets like his fans were stating he would? Is he 'indispensable'?

Re: The Official Andrea Bargnani Thread
It amazes me how dumb some Net fans are on the internet. The hate for Bargs is unreal. Here are his numbers since he came back from injury.
7 games
19.7 min/g
12.4 Pts/g (22.7/36)
4.6 Reb/g (8.4/36)
50% FG
56.7% TS
Any player getting 22.7 Pts and 8.4 Reb over 36 is someone you need to get on the floor.
Some say it goes beyond numbers. He is a +14 over that time span. Here are his +/- over that span
+2 at Chi
+2 vs Min
-4 at Ind
0 vs Mia
-12 vs Orl
+13 vs LAC
+13 vs Phi
I think he has been playing great. A lot of that has to do with the rotation. Willie Reed has taken T-Rob's spot in the rotation over this same time span and it has made all the difference. Bargs is what he is, a low BBIQ player on D. Pairing him with an equally low BBIQ guy in T-Rob wasnt working. Both tend to get lost defensively. Reed has made up for a lot of Barg's shortcomings. Reed has good range defensively and I can see why he was considered the best defender in the D-League. Plenty of teams hide bad defenders in their team defensive scheme. Losing RHJ hurt us more then people know. We still havent seen Reed and RHJ on the floor together.

Re: The Official Andrea Bargnani Thread
trob is a liability due to his offensive game at times and our wings have been so putrid at scoring that hollins has no choice to play bargnani for scoring. the defense actually has to respect bargnani offensive skills. trob does what willie reed does except willie reed has jumper and is more active protecting the rim and does similar stuff to what trob does but more efficient right now.
