Why doesn't Thad play SF?

Post#1 » by ChrisTheFuturePaul » Tue Jan 5, 2016 3:40 am

Just brainstorming ideas for New Orleans's defensive woes and having a solid rebounding SF is an area I'd like to see addressed, and I thought of Thaddeus Young as an idea to be a starting SF on the team who can shift to PF when AD plays Center.

Checking Basketball Reference it says Thaddeus hasn't played SF since his first 2 seasons in the NBA.

Does he play SF for Brooklyn at all? Aside from his lack of outside shooting is there any other reason he doesn't play SF? Is he too slow to guard 3's?

Why doesn't Thad play SF?

Yeah, he's a step slow when it comes to perimeter defense. He has trouble guarding stretch fours but his game is similar Zach Randolph. Below the rim offense, mid-range jumpers, offensive rebounds and his overall game is based off of taking advantage of the average slow footed Power Forwards. Removing him away from the paint severely limits his game.

He would be a good fit next to Davis but Davis would have to be a Center in order for Thaddeus to fit in next to him.

When the Nets got him last year I was wondering if they could slot him in at SF too. But as Paradise said, he isn't good at guarding the perimeter. And Yea, his outside shooting isn't ideal.

thads defense is not that great, but id be willing to do it to get joe johnson out of lineup and trob in it. thad wouldnt be as productive against small forwards though.
