If you were accused of being racist simply because you're Irish, would that not be an equally damaging prejudice?

It's a fair assumption. I assume all English people are **** because of what they did to my (our?) ancestors so it would be pretty silly of me to think other people won't think the same way. It doesnt bother me to be called racist because anybody who knows me knows I'm not. I'm not offended by it.

I suppose that's a kind of grace.

But, it seems to me that the better course would be to work to actively to dispel those sorts of prejudices. i don't think it's a "fair assumption" at all - not your assumption about the English, not someone else's assumption about you, and not anyone's assumptions about Boston.

I don't see the "fairness" in any of this. Maybe I'm naive, but when has "eye for an eye" ever been a winning strategy?

I think it's fair because I can understand where their words are coming from. Am I supposed to argue that not all irish people are racist? Because it's not like it's a very small percentage of Irish people who spread that stereotype, It's a good amount. This is also my response to NyCeEvo , I would be offended if people were to ignore 95% of the Irish population to focus on the bad things the 5% do. But it's not like that, and as I said before I believe it's At least 40%. People in my neighborhood don't go around flaunting their racism either but that doesn't mean it isn't there. My black friends have always been hesistent to come here for the first time.

People in my nieghborhood (Woodlawn from the Bronx if you care to know), they don't go around flaunting their racism. They don't go calling people n*ggers for walking down the street. At least not in the last 18 years I lived here. But the racism is there. I can't pretend it's not there.

Oh, believe me, I am under no illusions about this - racism is a long, long way from being eradicated (same for all the other -isms). That's one part of the reason why I don't understand the meme that Boston is some specific bastion for intolerance.

Well, I do understand it memetically, given the historical context. I just have not yet been presented with any compelling evidence that the modern-day situation is as bad as so many outsiders seem to like to believe.

Anyway, I still don't agree that the appropriate response to hatred is acceptance/reciprocation... but, this has become a very different kind of conversation than it was when I entered. Think I'll show myself out and stop helping to keep this thread at the top of your board.

That isn't to say that it doesn't exist or is not there. However, I go there so often that the idea that the lowest life form is definitely way over the top for me.

Also, of course you're going to rustle feathers MDB. If you quote them, they're going to receive the notification and be directed to the board. If anyone calls your hometown a racist, drunk-filled cesspool, I'm pretty sure you'd be PO'd too.

Dude no offense but why are you being a white knight for them? Those ass holes disrespect this team and fanbase constantly over there, they mock us and take joy in the misery of Nets fans. They deserve it.

**** them, if I make them mad because I tell the truth about that landfill full of degenerate racist alcoholics and smack addicts, good.

You say no offense but then portray me as a traitor lol? You're asking me why I go against generalizations? The same reason why I go against people who cherrypick bad examples from the black community and use them as being representative of all blacks.

I could write pages of why I hold such a position but this is a basketball forum, not a worldview/political forum. In short, I prefer honesty over stereotypical generalizations. Too many people have suffered from the propagation of stereotypes over millenia for me to passively standby and say it's ok.

It's the same reason why I don't go along with the "all of Canada sucks" jargon. I do a lot of traveling and what I see does not meet the rhetoric I've read over the years.

This is the sort of accusation for which you should probably be absolutely sure you have your facts straight.

Exclusive: The Real Numbers Behind Those 'Racist Tweets From Bruins Fans'

CBC Reports Online Rumor That “N*****” Was Trending In Boston Last Night, Offers Zero Evidence To Back Up Because It Didn’t Happen

No one contests that Boston has an ugly history in this regard. But, it seems there are some who are very invested in making sure old wounds never heal.

I have a high level of confidence that you will not click on or read either of those links.

PK Subban's own thoughts on the incident:
https://twitter.com/BruinsDaily/status/462695750980624386/photo/1

Of course two Boston based sites would try to spin a bunch of animals calling a black hockey player the N-bomb as an "isolated incident". Boston fans are notorious for this garbage.

And Subban is a pro athlete, a public figure and a black one at that who has to be careful with the way that he responds towards racist ignorance. Of course if he has sense he'll respond that way. It doesn't cancel out the fact that he and the other black hockey player were called n*ggers by TYPICAL Boston trash. I went to a playoff game back in 2003 in Boston and never again will I set foot in that city unless its for business reasons. Just vile, nasty animals. Can't even call the people in the Fleetcenter that night human beings. Animals.

This is the same city that had sportswriters breaking into Bill Russel's home and taking a **** on his bed.

Sigh...i actually called you a white knight for them because you kind of took the air out of the fun I was having riling them up

You do realize I said 90% of that to troll the Celtic fans who want to lurk right? I knew exactly what I was doing when I made all of those general blanket statements about Bostonians, i wanted to piss them off (mission accomplished!) for their constant and pathetic running down of the Nets. Personally, I visited before for a game and you had some nasty folks in there. I didn't have a Nets jersey on because I was warned by my dad (who visits Boston often for work) not to draw attention to myself. After hearing some of the nasty **** said about Nets players (a dude a few rows down literally yelled something about Jason Collins being an ape) I realized what he was talking about and I didn't really enjoy myself and the Nets won the game so yes, 10% of what I said is based off of seeing first hand how vile fans in that area can be.

GT: Nets at Suns Feb 25th 9pm

Post#70 » by Paradise » Sun Feb 28, 2016 1:43 am

Honestly, I think this whole thing is kind of silly at this point. Both sides have a point but we go about it much classier than they do but it's notorious for Boston fans to be obnoxious and ignorant even without the racial remarks. Nothing new here. It's not even worth the argument. We've established that they are a desperate bunch and have absolutely no class. I've even seen Suns fans laughing at that thread. It doesn't seem to bother them. Whatever.

The reality is they depend on our picks because no star is walking into Boston and calling it home. It hasn't happened and it isn't going to happen. Every option for a star will come via the draft or through trades. They simply won't ever admit that but it's the truth. Let them talk sh*t and make bait threads to feel better about themselves.

There hasn't been any indication that Danny Ainge knows what to do with any of the picks. He isn't committed to keeping any of them and his recent selections in the draft are extremely questionable. How is James Young career going thus far? Lol

Damn near dealt FOUR 1st rounders for Justice Winslow. The Sixers saved their asses by rejecting the offer for Jahlil Okafor who is Al Jefferson 2.0. I'm not losing any sleep over that. I think most of us simply want to finish with a high spot in the lottery to watch that board implode lol

Let's not stoop to their level.

They think letting Johnson, who hasn't been good at all for the most part, walk is going to send this team spiraling? we were going to be bad one way or another. We're sitting here focused on developing our young guys while they're praying for our pick to hit lottery and actually making GAME THREADS for our team. Sad. Maybe they need the pick, because we all know they aren't getting any good black players to play in that racist, cess pool **** stain city as is. Carmelo said hell NO to the idea of even going there...don't blame him. Who would want to play in front of a fanbase full of douchebags and racist filth...bunch of animals. Look at them. Even their moderator is a scumbag.

Calm down, man. Since you've been here, I've certainly let you be free for the most part, but you're derailing threads and inviting trouble here while at the same time making us look bad. Reel it in and be better than this and them.
