The Dreaded Third Quarter

Post#1 » by Jimmyftw » Sun Nov 13, 2016 9:17 am

In the games so far I believe the Nets were outscored in every third quarter. It cannot be a coincidence that this is happening so what is really going on? Is it fatigue? Is it that at the halftime, the opposing coach discuss how to disrupt our offense and break down our defense and that they forget it by the fourth quarter? Is our system easily exploitable?

What could be possible reason for our poor performance in the third quarter and how can we improve this?

-the pistons and suns are the only 2 games we won the 3rd quarter.
- we averag 23.4 ppg in the 3rd
- we allow 29.1 ppg in the 3rd

hard to pin point. it could be fatigue, be we finsih really strong in 4th quarters so its not that. Brooks scoring as at its worse in the third, but playing just 12 first half mpg combined with a break at halftime thats probably not fatigue. Kenny is a good coach, so i dont think its adjustments.

a few guesses:

1) teams havent been taking us serious, coming in expecting a win and once they get punched in the mouth they come out more focused in the second half

2) we have a team full fo basically role players. their consistency is likely to not be great and hard to sustain 4 quarters. especially when we talk about shooting from range.

3) over aggressive. i think being up at halftime kenny is telling these guys to keep attacking and they are getting sloppy. we have turned it over a ton in third quarters.

Could be that the opponents are adjusting, like Prok said we've punched more than a few of our opponents in the mouth hard in these games and half time adjustments get made.

either way, we knew coming into this that every game was going to be a dog fight so its to be expected.

Another bad third quarter.

Here are my guesses: (besides the already mentioned)

- Guys play harder than usual and it's not sustainable. Hold it for a whole half, hit a trough in the third then another gear to finish.

- Lack of creativity. Teams start to be able to predict what we're gonna do, motion offense, shoot threes, some slashing.

- Game plan to stop the opponents main guys working OK, but after a while, they realize that the other guys get opened a lot and they start to get into a rhythm.

Lets hope Lin comes back and he has some kinda solution (and maybe some surprise elements from DMo or LV)

Please merge with Nets offense thread- at this rate, we'd have one thread to poop on the 3pt shots, one to complain about scoring in the paint, one blaming Marks for poor transition defense, another thread about after timeout plays

Cmon gentlemen-consolidating threads makes it easier for us all to keep up with what's going on with this board. Let's keep it neat

They need an inspirational speaker in the locker room at every halftime.
Stop giving them whatever they're drinking at halftime.
Bible study at halftime may not be a bad idea either.

I think you're on the right track. Maybe hypnotize them at halftime to think it's the 1st quarter.

~lol~

Or try starting Scola, AB, CMC and Foye for the 2nd half! (j/k)
