That's not conjecture, its the truth and even on the other forum the Nets had their (former) mouthpiece Robert Windrem basically degrading NJ fans at every chance that he could get. I don't think they really made any accommodations, especially travel wise, for NJ fans either. The few times I've gone to Barclays were only on weekend match ups because it would be hell trying to get there during the work week. It's easier for me to attend Knicks games than it is Nets games, which funny enough is when I'll be seeing the Nets live next month...in MSG since its a simple straight shot train ride for me.

The new car smell wore off in Brooklyn pretty fast thanks to mismanagement and bringing in guys that didn't care about the end result and attendance is now back to where it was when they played in New Jersey, with fans of other teams basically making every game a road game for the Nets because their plan to turn Knick fans has failed abysmally. They won't have a legitimate fanbase for a long time unless they draft a superstar player within the next 3-5 years.

Paradise, you're younger than guys like me and Prok. Your Net fandom began with Kidd/Vince, right? That's huge. That was a period of time where the Nets were playing competitive basketball year after year. None of the crap that we've seen towards the end of the NJ days and these first few seasons in Brooklyn.

So imagine what impressionable basketball fans younger than you must be thinking when they see the Nets of now and dating back to 2012-13?

more than likely "these dudes are trash af, i'm going to roll with Steph and the Warriors". :noway:

This entire area, because of the ineptness of both the Knicks and Nets, will see a shift where you have a good % of the next generation f tri state area basketball fans rooting for teams hundreds of miles away from them.

This is so true.

Fans in NJ were constantly blamed for the poor support of the franchise, despite the fact that we almost always had a terribly run team.

During the Kidd/VC years we were starting to come into our own and develop a fan base. You could see it.

The move to Brooklyn was supposed to solve these problems. No more bottom 5 in attendance, no more seeing our stadium taken over, big name Free Agents would want to come and play here.

None of these things have happened. We are right back where we started. Nobody in Brooklyn cares about the Nets.

The Kidd/VC years are the reason why this team still has any fans at all.

Last heat game, a heat fan pushed me and clapped in my face. I pushed him back and stumbled up against the upper level glass. I damn near killed him

Wow. That kind of experience can sour your whole day. I'm glad you didn't escalate things.

Showing off that #BrooklynGrit.

Maybe the Nets should give you a 10-day contract and you can be the enforcer.

I would be curious to see what the devils attendance been since they are at prudential. I think if the nets had the Brooklyn team the first few years in Brooklyn at the prudential center I'm not sure the attendance would be better than it was in Brooklyn those first few years even with better transportation there. I think outside of the jets and giants being the exception because of the sport I think nj is too split as nyceEvo said with the Knicks fans northern nj and Philly fans southern nj. I think if those kids teams were in Brooklyn the fan base would've exploded in numbers.

They certainly handled the transition poorly when it came to NJ fan inclusion and transport but disassociating with NJ did have to do with the same lack of support. You also had heard reporters mentioning Howard and Melo didn't want to play in NJ and wanted to be here for the Brooklyn move. The Nets were never atop the league in attendance in NJ. The Nets were 12th in attendance in 2012 and has always sold out in the postseason since the move. The biggest issue is how poorly they build a sustainable product for the fans who bought into the Brooklyn franchise. I haven't seen a 9 win team that has lost 10+ at home still get a rabid home environment a day in my life. Most rebuilding teams that lose still have an impressionable prospect(s). We haven't gotten there yet and nobody is buying tickets to watch Lopez or Bogdanovic.

The only fans who overrun our building are fans of Boston, Philly, Toronto, Chicago, SA, LAL and of course NY by proximity and popularity. Those teams either have a bonafide star or a winning organization. What have we been missing since the Kidd/VC era? Those two things.

Winning cures everything.

I agree that winning is a great cure all for attendance.

That said, the nets didn't have Kidd or Carter when we moved to the Prudential Center. I wish we had moved earlier. Those games were so easy to get to, didn't have to drive. I'd get right off of work, take the train to Newark and meet friends at the area all in enough time to catch the tip off. no rush hour traffic, no tolls, just a smooth trip in and best believe i was lit to and from the arena

I'm a big proponent of not having to drive to sporting events for a good reason :D

also, attendance had a nice spike in 2012...and has declined every year since. That magic of the first season got exposed when those ass holes got blown out on national television by Boston and its been a freefall since.

I'm not mad at the team for moving, albeit they were shameful in treating the team's small fanbase. But I'm not going to act like Brooklyn has really been any better. I'd trade the last 4-5 years for 2001-2007 again in a heartbeat.

Yeah, even though the Nets had already committed to moving to Brooklyn when they were in Newark, it was easy to get to games at the Prudential Center even from NYC. I like that the team is in Brooklyn but it would've been very interesting to see what would've happened if they would've just tried Newark for several years before making an official decision on moving to BK.

Taking the PATH was a bit annoying but it was cheap and provided direct access to the stadium. Like you said, the big thing is that you don't have to drive to the stadium. That's a huge inconvenience that will turn off city dwellers who either don't have a license or even more likely don't have a car. Getting into and out of the city driving is a nightmare.

You could take an express train all the way from Trenton or NY Penn to Newark...super convenient. Oh well, it's done.
