We have Toronto by their balls with the fact that they are so up and above their salary I think all we needed to do was to wait for them to panic and force them to give up more. I really wished we could've gotten more. However, It was still not a bad return.
they have an elite GM. elite GMs dont panic... especially when the owners publically back them being in the tax.
we got overpaid to take carroll as is.
No matter how good of a GM Ujiri is, no one is perfect. I think Marks pulled the trigger a little too quick. Not saying we didn't get enough back. I think this trade is equal I just think we could've made it much more lopsided in our favor. I don't really care what ownership say. When push comes to shove and they have no way of improving their roster, they will think twice like Ujiri was already thinking of rebuilding young early in the offseason. They are a small market team and have no way of improving. Even if they have so many loyal fans, It's going to be hard for them to really justify going up and above the penalty the way they are doing right now. IMO the Raptors will ultimately win this trade by us letting them improve.
toronto also had leverage in phoenix, as well as simply waiving DMC and eating 6 mil a year on the cap if former raptor sean marks pressed too hard for an extra pick or one of young raptors players. not to mention the knicks gonna knick, who knows if they would have taken on DMC to poison the well for next executive...
by the way toronto is NOT a small market team... it's the 3rd biggest city between US and Canada after NYC and LA....
