What are your top 5 concern's for the Brooklyn Nets now?

Post#1 » by Stone » Fri Dec 21, 2018 12:04 am

Mine.....

1) Caris Levert coming back 100% whenever that is.....Also him picking up where he left off playing at a very high level.

2) Organic rebuild...I would like to see Russell, Dinwiddie, Kurucs, Levert, Harris and Allen stay with the Nets longterm. Add talent as it becomes available but lets not mortgage the future (Again).....

3) Making the playoff's this season.....Would be great experience for this young group. Winning is great for morale and will motivate us to strive for greater success.

4) Offseason Improvement.....We all saw the difference in Levert from last year. We need our guys to improve on both strength and skills.

5) Ticket prices.....Whenever the great teams come to the Barclays the ticket prices are a lot more money. Which leads me to believe when we get really good diehards like us will be going to less games..

My concerns
1) our 1st pick will be too high to get a legit player.
2) We don't add a star in FA
3) We waste cap on role players Like Crabbe
4) Levert coming back full strength
5) Our young players don't improve

Our young players are already showing improvement across the board though.

LeVert will be fine.

We aren't wasting cap space on anymore Crabbe like players.

concerns 1 and 2 are legit

1) Marks throwing max money at a Role player (like crabbe/otto porter deals) if/when he strikes out on all-star free agents

2) We decide to tank (this isnt really a concern i know the Nets wont do that)

3) Prokorov sells and new ownership is stingy with money (again i dont see this as likely)

I dont have 4th or 5th concerns. Really the nets are in the best shape in my lifetime and maybe the history of the franchise. certainly the best shape since they have been in the NBA:

-Great ownership
-Great location/Arena/facilities
-Great GM/Front office/staff
-Great cohesion between ownership-gm-scouts-coaches
-Players who buy into the system
-Focus on players as people first, assets second
-growing fanbase

other then marks having a pattern of offering some awful deals to role guys, nothing is even remotely a concern. even if levert didnt come back 100% of we miss the playoffs that sshort term stuff we would easily overcome long term. we are setup for 15-20 years of being a great organization top to bottom

Yep. We are in prime position and even with the ownership transfering looming, Joe T seems to be in line with the current direction of the franchise, and he's rich as balls so we don't have to worry about stinginess.

This is by far, the best that the Nets have been managed, even dating back to the back to back finals years.

That our young players stop improving next year, nothing is a sure thing.
Can't be too sure We don't waste our cap on role players, Marks tried to sign Porter to a large contract and Tyler Johnson and Crabbe, so if we strike out on FA then I would hope something like that don't happen again.

1. Our 1st round pick isn't someone with good potential to develop into a starting caliber NBA player, or Marks drafts for fit instead of taking the best player available.
2. LeVert coming back at full strength
3. We land a star in FA who dictates trades and signings that lead to our demise (the Deron dilemma)
4. We overpay another second/third tier player in FA
5. Russell plays his way into a max. His inconsistency leaves me a little skeptical of wether he's the new Monta or a potential all-star

My biggest concern by far is the draft. It's the first time we have our own first and it will probably be in the lottery. We need to accumulate as many potential franchise cornerstones as possible. Would rather have a surplus like OKC had with KD,Harden,Russell than the Pelicans who are desperately clinging to AD

The guys are winning and the hard work is showing, but it's painfully true that we don't have any luck in this franchise. Like many are alluding to or said previously,(not to mention I sarcastically called it before the season began) that for the first time in years we have control of our own first rd pick and we're probably going to the end for a battle of the 7/8th seed... just our **** luck.

Top 5:
1. Lost out best draft selection odds
2. Levert not coming back 100%(this or next season)
3. Not getting a star FA(its a concern but not a shocker TBH)
4. Everyone else stay healthy
5. No bringing back cap space in the trade deadline to accommodate others

Pretty much the only concern is the risk of Russell's and Rondae's upcoming contracts.

Kenny can still improve from an X/O perspective, but he's shown some improvement from last season. Still stubborn at times when things aren't working, but as long as he's improving, that's a good step.

The draft isn't a big concern. Yes, it sucks not getting Zion. But right now IMO, he's the only star prize of this draft. Rest are crap shoots like most prospect. So even if we had tanked, were still talking about having to win the #1 pick to get him. As we fall further down the draft, it actually improves our chances of taking a guy who is overlooked for one reason or another, much like Caris and Allen, as teams shoot for the stars and take their chances on boom/bust prospects early in the draft.

So pretty much the only concern is that we turn into a capped out treadmill team.
