BTW, don't think it's been talked about, but IMO a turning point in Spencer was Russell getting his back. He really hadn't had a great game (8 points iirc) and then he did a harden push off and since he's not Harden, was called for an offensive foul.

Now you can tell that at that moment, Spencer wanted to say something. But seeing as he got T'd up the previous game vs the Celtics, he didn't want to complain and get another T.

I think Russell (who is quiet and don't complain much) getting that T for Spencer was a low-key turning point in that game. While it seemed like a negative at that point (giving them a freebie), I think the effect it had on Spencer turning it on can't be understated

If I'm not mistaken that has to be his first technical in a Nets uniform. I was baffled when it happened because usually he doesn't say much to the refs. Spencer was on course for another sub par game until that happened and afterwards he just snapped and started driving aggressively to the hoop. I hope that same energy stays with him from now til the end of the season, we need more games where both of them play like that.

 gotta admire the teamwork at play though. Spencer and Kenny got into it a bit versus Boston over that technical (which Kenny was right to do, Spence needs to cut the crap out) but for Russell to say screw it, I'll curse at the refs for you is something I don't think I've seen done around here before.

Preferably, neither of them need to be barking at the refs going forward unless it's something so egregious that it's worth it.

Yeah I don't recall him ever getting a T. He's had conversations with refs before but they appear very cordial and typical conversation vs Spence who's very animated (head shaking shoulders rolling, all kinds of hand gestures lol).

Ideally, we won't need to. But I don't have a problem with a guy like Russell or Carroll or Dudley and especially Kenny doing it since we so often get the short end on calls.

Obviously you don't want Kenny going MMA like he did a few weeks ago but we need to get the message that hey..were a playoff caliber team now. You can't keep treating us like some trash and just let our guys get bodied while calling ticky tack fouls on the other end.

As long as you get back on defense, don't get out of your game, and don't rack up Ts like Rasheed - I don't mind guys complaining to the refs. It's basically proven to work.

I wish the refs would reward teams that are respectful and call it fair but they just don't. If you stay quiet, you just get screwed over.

Spencer's an emotional guy. It fuels him. Sometimes it's a negative but yesterday, he was clearly angry and started taking it to the rim stronger as a result of the ref BS. Pretty sure he yelled at the refs after every made basket in Houston

^^he was ice grilling them the entire time because he was fouled on all of those drives.

I don't mind Kenny losing it every now and then, there's only so much one man can take and sometimes the players need reassurance that you have their backs. Every damn night the refs swallow the whistle against this team.

Kung Fu Kenny has to come out every once in a while. Can't let these refs get too comfortable. They gotta know that hands and feet can be put on them if necessary.
