My thoughts....
* Its great to have real basketball back. summer league is such a joke. i know this was the equivalent of playing a G-league team but at least it was real basketball and not glorified ymca pick up. all our guys, real sets, real game speed, etc.
* Prince is such a great fit. He is a DMC clone even down to his look. only he is more durable and a better shooter. What Carroll had over prince in craftiness, prince makes up with better shooting and driving. its going to be awesome to have him for 70+ games instead of DMC for like 50.
* Continuity is impressive. new guys look like they have been running this offense for years. our staff is so impressive. Jordan runs the 5 as well as Allen who has been here for 2 years. Prince comes off screens and handes like joe but has only been here 1 game. Claxton, Temple, Nwamba... guys look so comfortable on both ends. i counted maybe twice all game a set got fouled up and we had to back out and go ISO. That was the markinson vision. create a sustainable system, then just keep plugging in hard working high calibur guys.
* Jordan adds such a dynamic as a backup big. Last year when allen left the court so did our ability to pick and roll. Ed Davis simply was not a threat as either a screener, finisher, and really for a 6'9" guy played more below the rim then above it. Jordan allows us to stay pick and roll heavy when allen sits. and take it one step further guys are scared to fully commit to helping on caris/ball handler with jordan in the paint. we got our gaurds some easy looks at the rim cause the bigs wouldnt fully leave jordan and when they did we saw some dunks for deandre. i thought he still looked lethargic at times. he had a bunch of plays he ran the court end to end and got some dunks beating their bigs down but some times he also kind of wasnt fully into it. if we get the clippers era jordan effort (i know we wont get clippers era skill/dominance/DPOTY) its going to be a huge addition. he is a presence on the floor.
* Levert/Dinwiddie. same old same old. cant really see much improvement from these guys based on 1 game. we know who they are. for levert its consistent shooting from 3, cant see that in one game. for dinwiddie its constantly bringing the alpha aggression, easier for him in the 6 man role
*Nic Claxton... im not going to get super excited over 13 points when he came into a game we were up 30 in the 4th quarter vs a euro g-league team. I will get excited by his skillset. he is a more skilled left handed kurucs. and i wouldnt suprise me at all if he started at SF or PF at some point the way Rodi won the job last year. whether its an injury to someone or just forcing the coaches hand by playing well i think he will earn a rotation role and maybe a starting role?
I put like 0 stock in the win or the margin. they had no one to stress us on offense or stop us on defense. like not even a zack levine type to make our gaurds work or anything down low. what i do take away from a game like this is how comfortable guys are in the offense and defense and the fit. and that looked good.
Also looking forward to a lineup of:
Dinwiddie - Temple/Nwamba - Nwamba/Kurucs - Claxton - Jordan off the bench thats high energy with a bunch of guys who love to dunk
