Nets' Visit To Shaghai School Canceled By Chinese Government

Post#1 » by kamaze » Tue Oct 8, 2019 5:18 pm

I think we should just bring our guys back they'll probably cancel the game.

The Chinese government canceled a Brooklyn Nets' visit to a Shaghai area school, leagues sources told Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times.

The visit entailed Nets players dedicating a refurbished basketball court at a school ceremony.

The action is a result of the ongoing dispute between the NBA and China following Daryl Morey's tweet supporting protesters in Hong Kong.

The Nets and the Lakers are scheduled to play two games in China on Thursday and Saturday.

That was my first thought, that the Chinese government will try to pull the plug on the game like 4 hours before tipoff.

They are BIG MAD and are taking it out on the entire NBA, because of a small, innocuous tweet from one front office member of one NBA team.

Similar to Palestine, Catalonia and other highly charged political issues, I'll reserve my under-informed hot-takes re: Hong Kong other than to say that borders are dumb.

Not a good look for China. Lashing out at the entire NBA isn't going to win them any support over the HK situation.

Also potentially costly for the NBA in so far as losing the Chinese market.

I don't think Turkey is a good look right now. Erdogan wants to kill Enes Kanter, which means the NBA shouldn't be doing any business with them, and Donald Trump just sold out the Kurds to the Turks.

The Nets and Lakers need to come home where it's safe, I don't like the idea of these guys in China right now with as hostile as their government is acting and as lawless as they are. cancel the games.

The Chinese government just nixed another NBA Cares event, this time with the Lakers. I don't think that we should pull our players prematurely, unless we deem staying until tipoff a safety risk. Certainly, Adam Silver needs to brace for the possibility of China cancelling Thursday and Saturday's games at the last minute, as they have done with these two events.

Maybe we charter a pair of flights now to leave Thursday night (morning our time), so that if they cancel last-minute, we can fly home and do the Saturday game somewhere in the USA?

We need to get out of there ASAP. It's bad enough we have to deal with all this travel + sponsored events during preseason. All of that was probably going to effect us to start the season. Now we might have our games cancelled? And the team is probably really uncertain about things.

If they're choosing to cancel a game between a team with a supportive Chinese owner and Lebron's team, this isn't going to get resolved any time soon. Let Silver deal with this. I'm sure we can find a basketball arena in the U.S. willing to host Kyrie vs. Lebron twice.

This is a horrible position for both teams to be in. The NBA needs to cancel the games.

Just come home and try to play the Lakers either at Barclays or Staples.. you don't think people will pay to see LBJ/AD/Kyrie etc..

China will not budge. Time for the NBA to draw the line or they need to shut the **** up about how "woke" or "caring" they are.

Only when it doesn't hit the NBA/players/coaches in their pockets. Cowards.

Yeah, I’m done with this crap. I’ll sum up my thought on China and US later but Adam Sliver should have a Plan B for the Lakers and Nets to return to the US and play in either Staples or Barclays. That’s the best way to tell China to **** their feelings.

Morey sent out an apology, Harden with his cringeworthy house negro “we love China” response isn’t good enough for Chinese government than we need to reintroduce ourselves to their government and remind them why we are INTEGRATING with THEM with OUR western sport. The league could reroute the damn Nets and Lakers to India or Canada and sell out just the same.

Unfortunately, the financial politics of China’s hold on our entire country also plays a huge part here but ultimately, Sliver needs to pull the preseason games and go from there if they want to be that petty.

BTW, I think Morey should be fired because quite frankly, he has gotten away with being a piece of **** to plenty of other basketball athletes and GMs in business and always gets away with it due to his “brilliance” and his analytical genius but he comes off like a smug douche who thinks he can do anything he wants with tenure. This is karma. He shouldn’t have ever tweeted anything political in the first place during INTERNATIONAL exhibition games. Who does that? This clown is SLIENT when black men get gunned down by the police or any other social justice norms in this country so Morey can go **** himself and I hope Tillman fires his ass for hurting the entire league and putting players in awkward positions to be in China including those who aren’t in the NBA and who are strictly American men in Chinese leagues.

This clown really thinks he can say anything on social media and get away with it because it’s hipster culture and satire culture. He got humbled real quick.

I am not getting at him for speaking the truth because the situation in HK is a HUGE problem but I personally cannot care about it coming from Daryl Morey when these same people are silent when things come out like Chinese government creating social credit systems or mass surveillance state customs for their citizens on top of African American issues that also are very prevalent in Houston and Texas overall like cop Amber Guyger murdering Botham Jean and suddenly her witness mysteriously gets murdered this week.

At the end of the day, China is outrageous for this but we all know they are. So does Morey. So he doesn’t get off the hook to me. He should be forced to be disciplined internally by the NBA board of governors.

Well said. I've been saying that the Rockets are well within their rights to fire him. Free speech does not come without consequences. He knew how deep in bed the Rockets were with the CCG and tweeted anyway. While I support his right to tweet that and the sentiment behind it because the Chinese government are murderous ass holes, he brought this onto himself.

If the Rockets do fire Morey however, I think the backlash here at home will increase because then it really does look like the NBA is compromised by The CCG.

The league is in a no win situation, and to make matters worse what the Sixers did last night by kicking fans out for having signs in support of HK will turn American sentiment towards the NBA into a negative if they value Chinese investment over American free speech and American fans, since we are the lifeblood of the league's revenue.

Adam Silver probably isn't sleeping to well these days.

I agree with a lot of what both of you are saying. While it is well within their right to fire Morey I sure as hell hope they don't. In my eyes and I believe in many others a firing/resignation will be seen as a win by China. What a crappy situation lol.

Yeah Adam Silver definitely woke up in a nightmare haha.

For the basketball side, I'd rather they cancel those games than play in Staples or Barclays. International travel fatigue sucks...playing with international travel fatigue is worse.

I definitely don't think you do, hopefully I didn't come across that way. I just don't see how he resigns/gets fired without the masses thinking it's related. Crazy crazy situation.
