Should We Sit Kyrie on Friday?

Post#21 » by Paradise » Fri Nov 1, 2019 3:22 pm

Nah.

Let’s go out and get this win tonight. It helps it’s an earlier start, so it should be a quicker travel to Detroit. We should honestly have no problem competing with the Pistons without him.

heck no, our backup would be theo pinson, its way too early in season to be doing load management. team needs to step up and gain chemistry with kyrie.

That's my point, we ARE on a back-to-back today and tomorrow. And just like the Clips, they rested Kawhi on the front end of the back-to-back, because the matchup and odds dictated that that was the smarter choice. They lost the one in which KL didn't play (@UTA), which was going to be a tougher match anyway. And they played him in the one they were likelier to win (SAS), which they did.

You are saying that you disagree with me, but your justification is exactly my point!

Didn't see we had a game tomorrow. But still na, I rather use Kyrie for the tougher matchup, I rather not lay down and let the Rockets run over us. And we might be able to beat the Pistons without Kyrie. Plus the Rockets defense sucks !! Kyrie might get 50 tonight. They let the Wiz score 157 points ! But even then, Kenny does a good job with the minutes, I can see him giving Kyrie 25 minutes tomorrow . Also, I don't think Kyrie is in as bad condition as Kawhi or others.

I don't think there's much comparison, really.

Kawhi has a chronic neurological condition that can only withstand so much physical activity before getting really painful.

Kyrie has some structural issues with his knees as I understand it. They're probably more prone to getting sore, but they also have the potential to reinjure, so to speak.

For those people who are fine with playing Kyrie heavily on back-to-backs, are you also fine with him reinjuring his knee(s) and being out for an extended stretch? Because it's a real possibility as I see it.

Yea Kawhi condition is worse in my opinion. I said I would probably rest him on back2backs but I think it's a little too early in the season for that right now. And Kenny is so good with spreading the minutes around so I doubt we see Kyrie touch 40 minutes this season unless it's an overtime game. Good thing we played him tonight and got the W. Now I wouldn't be upset if he sat out tomorrow game, I think we can beat Detroit without him. But I also think he can play 20 minutes.

Glad the nets staff didn't follow the advice of this thread. Kyrie kept the Nets afloat during a brutal Rockets run long enough for his teammates to get it in gear, and then he went ahead and hit a dagger 3 in the 4th.

I'm all in on Irving. He is a beast and he wants to win games.

In a way they did follow the advice of this thread, though.

The Nets played a much more offensively-cohesive game which didn't rely nearly as much on Kyrie bearing the load. That was one of the main problems that led to the need for this thread.

Also, this isn't really so much about any one back-to-back, but about future ones as well. Even given tonight, dude is working his tail off, and will deserve some strategic rests here and there. He's just too important to risk re-injury or getting drained, like high-usage players sometimes do as the season wears on.

Welp, Kyrie certainly shot the ball as if he was tired on the second night (a loss against DET).

This thread wasn't wrong. Not for this particular series, and not for the ten-odd times in the future we'll have a back-to-back. Particularly when it involves a really good team and a mediocre team.

Wait, Theo actually plays basketball? I thought he was our resident choreographer! :)

No, obviously, I want the best for the Nets. I want Irving to play all 82 games. I don't think we should expect or plan for that. We went 1-1, hopefully we can get one more tonight.
