Wilson Chandler suspended DJ hurt
The Nets can still add a player because of Chandler's suspension and since DJ got hurt will the team add another big?
If so Tyler Lydon would be a great choice.
He's a good perimeter shooter he'd add a different look.

Personally, I think we already have Lance Thomas in the pipeline. I'm not so much worried about DJ's absence, with Claxton and Ellenson available as call-ups.

Re: Wilson Chandler suspended DJ hurt
I would run the C rotation as Allen and Ellenson, and I would officially let Claxton press Rodi for time behind Prince.
However, now is the time for Jarrett Allen to step up.

They already had 15 guaranteed contracts when they signed Lance Thomas before training camp, they were never not going to waive him at that time.
They took Thomas through training camp, so that when they were eligible to sign a replacement for Chandler after the 5th game, that they could bring him back with knowledge of our system.
ANYONE we're going to sign right now is a scrub. He's the scrub we know, who knows us. You can wish for a sexier signing (I would have loved to keep Amida Brimah in the pipeline), but you're hoping against hope.

Didn't know they had 15 players and had to waive Thomas. I still think there's better options out there.
I was excited about Brimah too he would've been a good 3rd string center imo. I guess Kenny didn't like him.

Re: Wilson Chandler suspended DJ hurt
We're -13.4 per 100 possessions with DJ on the floor and a +12.4 with Allen on the floor. It might not be too bad that DJ is out. Damn Knicks were right all along lol this guy is toast. I guess he can be a players coach now . We're still looking for a backup center. Baynes would be perfect but we're not getting him.

Allen is the clear better player that was obvious from day 1 but people still had some idea that DJ was some kind of legit beast still
that said, DJ is still an outstanding backup center. he does everything ed davis did better plus can play the pick and roll. we just need him playing 12-14 minutes a night in a role suited for him. not starting him or giving him big minutes

hmm I don't know if he was better than Ed, -13.4 per 100 possessions is horrible. He hasn't really done anything except catch a few lobs and yea he is a good rebounder but he's not as good defensively as Ed is. And he's lazy.

Aaron Baynes would be perfect next year for a backup to big Jay. This is the last year they have to pay that bum Deron William's next year we can use that extra money on him.

Re: Wilson Chandler suspended DJ hurt
Ed Davis was great last year. DJ hasn't shown that he can be half as good yet. On either end TBH.
He's been struggling. No doubt about it. I'll give him a pass because outside of Kyrie and Joe, our whole team started the season off looking slow. Some issues are correctable. The team is finally adjusting to not throwing him crazy passes. Kenny will adjust and keep him on the 2nd unit full time. His FT shooting will hopefully get back up to normal. He needs to get more comfortable with our defensive scheme.

Re: Wilson Chandler suspended DJ hurt
Zach Lowe wrote an article, and discussed Deandre in it. Basically pointing out what we've been seeing too...on defense, he's just a big body that takes up space and can grab rebounds. He deters opposing teams from taking as many shots at the rim. But teams that do take it to the rim shoot WAY better against him than anyone else, and opposing big men that can score in the post straight up abuse him. Offensively, he's terrible from the FT line again, which sucks because he is going to shoot a lot of FTs this year. And yeah, we're overall -13 with Jordan, and +12 with Allen.
More playing time for Allen can only be a good thing.

Re: Wilson Chandler suspended DJ hurt
I will own my error in judgment, I was one of the loudest trumpeting for DJ to start. I thought that the qualities he has historically brought to teams would better complement our starters. I had no illusions that he was a world-beater or even better than Jarrett, just different in ways that fit the 1st unit.
I was wrong. I would never wish injury on anyone, but DeAndre and the Nets overall might be better off with him not playing for awhile. I think he's uncomfortable in the system, and maybe the time watching from the bench helps him to "think" the game more quickly as we play it. I also think he just plain wasn't 100% healthy to start the year. I'm not sure why but IMO his agility, reaction time and change of direction all looked like someone trying not to re-aggravate something. Silver linings, I hope he and we are better for this.

Post this in the metrics thread please, I think it warrants a deeper look
