So it looks like the Philly pick will be #23 this year.
We do not have our pick this year and we have the worst of ours/rockets pick next year (likely ours in the 22-30 range).
Keep the pick:We get a pick in the first round of a draft were we dont have a pick and can add youth/fill a need. Marks has had luck in that 23 range in the draft before
Push the pick to next year:Potentially get a better pick
What do we do with the Philly pick???

Re: What do we do with the Philly pick???
I'm pushing the pick to next year. I dont see how it gets worse. Mathematically even if does get worse it cant be much worse. (can move back at most 7 spots).
I doubt Philly finishes with a top 3 record next year since the west has more high ceiling win teams and the east is stronger top to bottom. Harden/Embiid will for sure have maintenance days/time missed to injuries and they likely make changes at coach/role guys.
I'd cap them at #4 in the NBA next year, meaning the pick at worst is 4 spots higher next year (#27)
On the flip side, Harden is declining and has the Hammy thing. Embiid is always fighting injury it seems. Harden is about to get PAID. They 100% will make a coaching change. They could absolutely have a season similar to ours this year or worse where they end up with a pick in the 14-20 range and there is disaster potential where Embiid gets hurt, Harden pouts and they end up in the lotto.
Even if they win a title, they probably say 'eff it and celebrate. they dont seem like a team to me that would be back in the gym day 1 looking to repeat.
for me, unless we have a great trade lined up, im pushing the pick to 2023

It's hard to say without knowing who will be there come draft time...
The issue with keeping the pick though is what are you going to do with all these young guys?
Cam, Edwards, Sharpe.
There's not enough minutes to develop all of them so something would have to give... On the flip side hitting on one late pick can significantly change the direction of your team...

Sharpe is a coin flip to be a career backup. His career arc is likely Bismack Biyombo. His role depends on who is back at center (Any of Blake/LMA/Clax/Drummond could be gone). Even with all those guys, we could stand to add a center who can shoot.
Edwards is a place holder. love the dude but he is end of bench/insurance if we had a real starting calibur 3 & D guy
Cam is in the wrong era. 6'4" SG/SF who doesn't shoot threes and is an avg athlete to me just doesnt lend confidence that his career path is much different then Marshon Brooks (I mean a better Brooks with a longer career, but play for 3-4 teams and never really becoming that reliable bench scorer)
To me, none of our rookies gives me pause to keep/make a pick. I dont see any of those guys becoming the next Allen or Levert.

Edwards has the highest upside for sure. I definitely think he can become a better player in time.
Anyway, I vote to punt the pick to next year. Harden is washed up and Philly fans are starting to realize it. Next year will be very interesting.

Re: What do we do with the Philly pick???
Keep the pick and draft your next Levert, Allen type player.... If we're going to get handcuffed by the salary cap, draft is the best route especially where we forfeited years worth of assets to improve this team or use as trade pieces.
Not every draft is the same but in 2020 looks who was there around that range(Saddiq Bey at 18 not withstanding!!!)
18 Josh Green Arizona Dallas Mavericks
19 Saddiq Bey Villanova Brooklyn Nets
20 Precious Achiuwa Memphis Miami Heat
21 Tyrese Maxey Kentucky Philadelphia 76ers
22 Zeke Nnaji Arizona Denver Nuggets
23 Leandro Bolmaro Spain New York Knicks
24 RJ Hampton New Zealand Milwaukee Bucks
25 Immanuel Quickley Kentucky Oklahoma City Thunder
26 Payton Pritchard Oregon Boston Celtics
27 Udoka Azubuike Kansas Utah Jazz
28 Jaden McDaniels Washington Los Angeles Lakers
29 Malachi Flynn San Diego State Toronto Raptors
30 Desmond Bane TCU Boston Celtics
A possible Maxey, Quickley(rookie yr was good) BANE!!! Green, Bolmaro(has good potential).....
we need to get younger and more athletic, stop avoiding those two skillets... we literally cut a vet who did not offer that for 2nd rookie who was a 2 way. We need the right balance of infusion....

There's no guarantee that the pick next year will be better... we can never know until its too late.
I wouldn't be mad if we did.... but depends on who's coming out now.
If we know for sure Philly is gonna lotto suck next year then yes, move the pick to next year.

the thing is, the pick really cant get much worse.
the difference in who you get at 23 vs 28 is minimial. the difference between 23 and say 16 or 17 could be alot bigger imo

you could look at it both ways, either way would be concluded with revisionist eye wear. We keep pick, the following season Philly trash.
We put off pick til next year, philly ends highly around 28, we should've taken the 23rd year before....
It's really just banking on if Philly is on a collison course to be a bad team next season, play in type bad the very least. Idk if I can go that far.

Re: What do we do with the Philly pick???
After drafting 4 rookies this year, at least 3 of whom will be under contract next year, I defer it. I don't know when the Nets are forced to make that decision, but unless you know somebody that you really covet will be there, we're better off pushing it back. 2 unprotected picks next year gives you the flexibility to trade 1, trade up or draft two more cost controlled players (which cannot be underestimated when you have a very top heavy roster).

hmm good point. And Embiid gets hurt alot, not wishing any injury on him like a certain other fanbase. I just hope they don't get a significant player this offseason even tho they're already a good team.
