^^watch this space. This could incense the orange dotard to the point where he fires Sessions outright.
And now the net widens. I knew that party platform change would come up.
This is why a rash of GOP reps and senators are not running for re election after their term is up. They know it's going to be seriously bad when the entire story comes out. It's not just Trump campaign members going down for this, the RNC is about to get a legal colonoscopy without lubricant.
Guarantee we hear sometime down the line Mueller tying this into the NRA laundering money from Russian sources and funneling it to GOP candidates.

Source: Mueller pushed for Gates' help on collusion
On its face, that's a no-duh headline. Of course he asked Gates about collusion stuff. But this is where it gets interesting:
So the Gates plea deal wasn't in exchange for dirt on Manafort at all - it was to shed light on possible collusion. And he wouldn't have gotten such a sweetheart deal if he had nothing to say.

That's in line with what prosecutors told Gates months ago during high-stakes negotiations, CNN has learned. They told him they didn't need his cooperation against Manafort, according to a person familiar with the investigation, and instead wanted to hear what he knew about contact between the Trump campaign and Russians.

I was kind of shocked by this as well. I thought that Gates was being used against both Manafort and Trump, but the fact that he got flipped to snitch on Trump alone is serious.
Based on what he was charged with, and what got dropped, it's pretty clear that he sold Donald Trump and several others involved with the campaign up the river.
Paul Manafort is sooooo **** ed. They had so much evidence against him that they didn't even need someone to snitch on him. His life is over, literally and figuratively. the fact that he's even allowed to be on house arrest is leniency that he doesn't deserve. maybe they are leaving him exposed on purpose, knowing how Putin handles things.
Also just my opinion, this stuff isn't being leaked accidentally, it's by design. Mueller's team is telling Trump that he is indeed the target and they are daring him to add more obstruction of justice counts to the list.
again...the country is in serious danger tbh, and god help us all if a war breaks out before Mueller can take out the trash, but as someone who enjoys political intrigue...this is fascinating to watch unfold.
The timing of this combined with old racist ass Keebler Elf Jeff Sessions telling House and Senate GOPers to go **** themselves over appointing a special counsel to investigate the FBI...i'm not one to believe in coincidence. Not sure what it means, but we'll see.

Carter Page is more than likely a traitor based on what I know. I also don't think that he's as stupid as he appears to be. he's not. every time he speaks in public he incriminates someone. it's deliberate. who is he really working for?

Carter Page, a former adviser to the Trump campaign, acknowledged on Thursday that he spoke with FBI investigators asking about whether he met with Russia's ambassador on the sidelines of the 2016 Republican National Convention (RNC).
"I told them, you know, a lot of everything I've essentially been doing for quite a long time, including, obviously, you know, everything in Cleveland," he said in interview on MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes," referring to the RNC in Cleveland, Ohio.
"So you did talk about that?" Hayes asked.
Yes," Page replied.
Page's comments came hours after Reuters reported that investigators on special counsel Robert Mueller's team have been questioning witnesses about interactions with Russians during an event on the sidelines of the RNC.

Re: Official Current Affairs & Politics thread
welp, assuming that Stone lied during his interview(s) with Mueller's team, he'll be getting indicted on making false statements and a slew of computer crime related charges.
I hope Roger Stone is prepared to spend his remaining years sleeping on a hard ass bed with his toilet seat inches away from his face.
Maybe his buddy Paul Manafort will be his cell mate
The number of people who are just forfeiting their freedom on behalf of Donald Trump is astounding. Nunberg clearly wasn't one of them

This is why voting matters. Legislation needs to be put onto the books to undo what Ajit Pai has done at the FCC which paved the way for this nonsense to happen.
The next congress and president, who should be overwhelmingly Democratic (we hope), needs to re-institute the fairness doctrine and put the clamps down on blatant propaganda outlets. Fox News needs to be banned from American airwaves, and it would not shock me one bit if they are being investigated by the feds for the garbage that they spew out daily.

Brooklyn might be the next flashpoint in the unarmed black man shot by police ongoing national story. There will be a justice for Saheed Vassell rally in a few hours. Hopefully it will be a peaceful protest and vigil that doesn’t turn ugly either by violent protesters or violent law enforcement action. If you attend I hope you stay safe.

F.B.I. Raids Office of Trump’s Longtime Lawyer Michael Cohen
The F.B.I. on Monday raided the office of President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, seizing records related to several topics including payments to a pornographic-film actress.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained the search warrant after receiving a referral from the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, according to Mr. Cohen’s lawyer, who called the search “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.” The search does not appear to be directly related to Mr. Mueller’s investigation, but likely resulted from information he had uncovered and gave to prosecutors in New York.
“Today the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients,” said Stephen Ryan, his lawyer. “I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller.”
Mr. Cohen plays a role in aspects of the special counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He also recently said he paid $130,000 to a pornographic-film actress, Stephanie Clifford, who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump. Ms. Clifford is known as Stormy Daniels.
Mr. Ryan said Mr. Cohen has cooperated with authorities and turned over thousands of documents to congressional investigators looking into Russian election meddling.
The payments to Ms. Clifford are only one of many topics being investigated, according to a person briefed on the search. The F.B.I. also seized emails, tax documents and business records, the person said.
The seized records include communications between Mr. Trump and Mr. Cohen, which would likely require a special team of agents to review because conversations between lawyers and clients are protected from scrutiny in most instances.

There is no attorney client privilege if the client made the communication with the intent to commit a crime or fraud. The fact that the FBI persuaded a judge to breach the privilege is serious stuff.

Re: Official Current Affairs & Politics thread
^^yep. The fact that the judge signed off on this pretty much confirms there was evidence of a crime being committed. Whatever Mueller found must be pretty damning.
I have to say it again...the amount of people willing to risk their freedom for Donald Trump never ceases to amaze me.
Trump will be up rage tweeting at 3am tomorrow morning. he won't get any sleep.
You know what's coming next for Cohen. Paul Manafort got hit with the no knock warrant just the same. Indictment time.
Also, cohen allegedly acted as a go between for Trump's campaign and contacts with the Kremlin. His face looks like the face of a man that would beg for a deal. Mueller's probably having himself a good chuckle, because he trolled Trump hard af today

Re: Official Current Affairs & Politics thread
Schumer breaks down Trump's lies about this being a partisan witch hunt.
And from what I've read this morning this (Cohen) is about a lot more than just Trump paying porn actors hush money. We're talking about Bank fraud, money laundering, etc.
^The president is correct. There is no A/C privilege when both parties conspire to commit crimes.
Those walls are closing in. His press conference yesterday was so embarrassing. He's scared right now.
Good.

Paul Ryan not running for re-election. Guess those rumors from late 2017 were through. Those rumors are always true.

Re: Official Current Affairs & Politics thread
Paul Ryan knows what's coming politically and legally for the GOP and he's trying to flee, because I have a belief that the truth about Russia, Trump, and the GOP is worse than any of us can imagine. Consider the timing of this announcement. Don't think for a second that Michael Cohen getting raided did not scare him and other GOPers to the core. Why would they be scared? Well, aside from being Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen was the deputy finance chairman of the RNC. There are rumors that the RNC was getting Russian cash via the NRA and other sources. People think this is about paying off porn stars? I will wager that what the feds found in his documents, computers, and his digital comms are so damning that things are about to come crashing down. This is why Trump is openly talking about firing Mueller, Rosenstein, etc.
Cohen was virtue signaling in public big time yesterday to the FBI. He's going to snitch. As he should, because dying in jail is not a good look.
Also, recall the recorded conversation where Paul Ryan clearly knows that Trump is Putin's bitch:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/house-majority-leader-to-colleagues-in-2016-i-think-putin-pays-trump/2017/05/17/515f6f8a-3aff-11e7-8854-21f359183e8c_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.c86601681ae1
Speaker Ryan can retire all he wants. if he is complicit in any illegalities, and his behavior (along with Mitch McConnell's) with protecting Trump and not putting a stop to Devin Nunes' nonsense says to me that he is, he'll be going down right along with the rest of them.

KIEV, Ukraine — A month before Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination, one of his closest allies in Congress — House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.
House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy.

Re: Official Current Affairs & Politics thread
So I believe today's news included:
-Excerpts from Comey's book outlining how Trump was obsessed with trying to disprove the "golden showers" section of the dossier
-A Trump Tower doorman was paid to keep quiet about Trump having a child with a housekeeper
-Cohen plans on pleading the 5th and seeking an emergency stay in Stormy Daniels case
-Cohen habitually recorded conversations, and those recordings may have been seized in FBI raids
-Mueller is ready to file an obstruction of justice report with or without a presidential interview, reportedly within a month or two
Wild day, even by today's insane standards.
