I agree. And the Nets FO would lose credibility and its reputation would take a hit around the League. That — plus Russell’s incredibly high ceiling - is why this will not happen.

This is why I don't hate the idea of them trading for Anthony Davis if they keep open max cap this summer and hold onto one of LeVert or Allen and keep Beef Jerky.

A Big 3 of Davis, Russell and a max guy like Kawhi with Allen or LeVert would be insane.

I've believed for awhile now their long game is KAT though. Probably go forward as is with a possible addition like Tobias Harris and when things completely crumble in Minnesota, pounce.

Acquiring Davis would cost the Nets both LeVert and Allen.

I agree however that KAT should be a long term target. This is why Russell's leap is a huge thing for this franchise. He's already friends with these guys.

Honestly, even if it did, if they truly believe they can sign a max FA this off-season and then keep Davis, it would be pretty sick, no?

I love LeVert and Allen, but they still have Musa waiting in the wings and although a twin towers of Davis and Allen would be crazy, it's not truly necessary. And I think they might honestly prefer Musa over LeVert(Nawlins), maybe just for contract reasons alone.

If the offer was similar to the one Brandon Robinson rumored/proposed, but with Dinwiddie in place of DLo and both Allen and one of LeVert or Musa, a hair better protection on the 2020 pick, it could be extremely interesting.

Allen
Dinwiddie to 3rd team for expiring and a 1st(this would be if it were a summer deal. If not you rock with Dinwiddie now and see what pops up over the summer to clear his contract and bring back value)
Musa or LeVert
Crabbe
RHJ(not even necessary)
2019 Denver 1st
2020 Nets 1st top 5 protected
2nd rounders(possibly Knix and another)

for

Davis
Filler like Mudiay

Imagine next year fielding a lineup of:

PG: DLo
SG: Beef Jerky Joe
SF: LeVert
PF: Kawhi
C: Brow

???

I get it. It's a crazy risk. It's not extremely realistic. But it isn't so unrealistic either. And you and some others have Billy King PTSD. Eventually a big trade is a very real possibility. You can't jam yourself into the mantra of, "Not yet, wait for it...", you have to strike when the iron is hot. This might just be the time to drop the hammer.

I agree however that KAT should be a long term target. This is why Russell's leap is a huge thing for this franchise. He's already friends with these guys.

This is the more realistic outcome. We trade for a guy like JaMychal Green, Anthony Tolliver, maybe even Dario Saric, or Markieff Morris at the deadline using very little in the of way of actual assets. Rock it til the wheels fall off this season. Sign a Tobias Harris, or even sign or trade for a Paul Millsap this off-season. Keep drafting, keep finding gems, make a couple medium opportunistic asset consolidation trades and keep growing from within. Trade for a disgruntled star like KAT a few years down the line to be the final piece of the puzzle for extended real deal contention.

But, as Dise and others have said, whether you agree with it or not, Marks is going to do his damnedest to land a superstar or 2 from now til July for a plethora of reasons. We're not talking over the hill retirees here. Or guys with extreme confidence issues and fear of minor surgery like a Deron. Or coast through the money guys like Joe Johnson. He's going to make his moves and pitches to land a young, in their prime league leading stud like Kawhi, Anthony Davis or even KD though.

Aside from KAT, this played out perfectly. Let DLo network/bond with Giannis, Simmons, Kemba, etc. Lebron can have all the grizzled vets. I hope Giannis gets these young, first time allstars to break protocol and play defense.

Giannis is going to play for real. Like dead serious he doesn't do that patty cake crap the rest of them do in these games.

Expect Dloading to throw the kind of passes that would get him benched!!

Dlo is super popular with young guys around the league... and making this all-star teams and national teams if he ever makes that builds those relationships even further. i know we want kawhi or kd or whatever but project out 3-4 years and he could be luring the next generation of top 10 players to brooklyn

low key that might be why "kawhi or bust" is a good idea... if we get kawhi, he would be by far our best player but russell still the vocal leader and face of the franchise. kawhi is an under the radar guy. if we miss, russell remains the face of the franchise.

id legit be looking at 2022, 2023 not 2019

This is why I was saying pay attention to Karl Anthony Towns in the future. If you ask me what's more likelier, Kevin Durant becoming a Net this summer or KAT becoming a Net a few summers from now, I'll say the chances of the latter are higher with full confidence.

We all know damn well he's not staying in Minnesota, and he's friends with Russell.. He's also a Jersey native.

2023 is such a damn long time though. It's difficult enough to predict 2020, much less 2023.

Things can change very quickly on the nba

Something I think we need to be somewhat relieved of.... Markel Fultz going to the Magic.

We had to legitimately worry about 2 teams with a lot of money potentially offering Russell huge money this summer: Orlando and Phoenix.

EASILY both of those teams could offer him max money, and I don't see how Orlando would want to do that now.

I can definitely still see Phoenix doing it, but maybe if they land Ja Morant they won't. However if they get the #1-2 pick and take Zion or Barrett, they might still make a go at him.

DLo / Booker / Oubre / Zion / Ayton
With Tyler Johnson, Josh Jackson, and Mikal Bridges.....

They'll need to get rid of Tyler to bring in Russell unless Dlo takes a discount to play with Booker.

With how good things are going for.him here, not sure he does that

it doesnt matter what he takes... he is restricted and the nets will match any offer.
