Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
mcmullen has had the best scoop on Kyrie. I'm not sure why people are dismissing this. But, as the article closed, it mentioned that Kyrie is starting to do some of the things the Nets want him to try.
To me, the Russell interview is worse, what with some staff/coaches acting differently around him.

Well, I would be concerned about anyone who says "hell no, I'm not gonna do the performance-related stuff the rest of the team is doing." That's not the Nets way, and not what we're looking for IMO.
But I do like Kenny's response of "the pushback isn't anything crazy, and we'll just have to figure this stuff out." Much of this is on Sean Mark's shoulders, though, so I hope he takes responsibility if needed.
Overall the article seems perfectly fair, really, and is in fact a nice long-form piece on Kyrie, the new guys, and the state of the Nets. It's good stuff, from what I'm seeing.
Not to mention, everyone knew there would be some bumps with Kyrie, including his moodiness and tendency to shut down (like in China). Just because it came from a Boston writer or whatever doesn't mean it doesn't bring up legit concerns. Let's not even go there, please. Because there will certainly be more articles like this from time to time, and the right thing IMO is to examine them to find what parts make sense, not to just try to sweep the whole thing under the rug because it's not what you want to hear.

Kenny's response is the right one. We're talking about a prime star. Asking them to change their training methods and game day routine and total regimen is going to get some pushback on day 1.
This isn't a rookie or a vet desperate to stay in the league. It's not surprising or concerning that he or KD or any other vet would be like nah to certain things. We do some weird stuff. It'll work itself out though.

Love the fact the guys shut the nonsense down immediately and Dinwiddie taking a well deserved shot at Morey.

Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
I read the article and it makes me feel great to be a fan of this franchise, and how sensible Marks and Atkinson are. It really isn't bad at all.
I think the really encouraging thing is that Irving and Durant are open to meeting in the middle when it comes to the Nets training team. It's pretty understandable. I also love how Durant is by choice injecting himself into the team by being available to the other players and being around regardless of rehab.
Also, Kyrie's body language on the court and on the sidelines has been nothing but positive. I see him taking leadership seriously, leading by example and also on the sidelines cheering guys on, goofing around with Theo, etc.
People are cherry picking what she wrote and are trying to make a scandal out of it. I've long suspected that Irving could have some mental health issues (depression possibly, which would cause a need for personal space, which can be perceived negatively by people around you if they don't know what's going on) but so far all I've seen is someone with a positive attitude that wants to build something special and has gone 120% in all three games this far.
Like KD said, whatever dude has to do to get himself ready to go for 7:30 at night, let him live.

Both the players on the Lakers and Nets were pissed off and guys wanted to go home. I totally understand why too.

Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
Agree with all the posts coming after my last. Some thoughtful rebuttals to mine and nice bits of context added.
This is a nice point in particular. Only a week or two ago, I was bitching about Kyrie and KD getting quoted for various wacky comments at the time, and I kinda groaned and shrunk inside a little, anticipating more and more of this stuff with the new season.
However, since roughly around the first game or a little before, I just <3 Kyrie's demeanor. He seems happy, engaged & willing to share. I look at his face, and it makes ME happy, seeing how he's doing. But also, he's been more or less everything we possibly could have hoped for, and a good sport to boot, and I'm happy that my fearful bit of bitchiness did not translate in to reality.
Just like with Fro's past game or so, I do appreciate being proven WRONG about my Nets cynicism.

What a hit job and very specifically timed. Jackie is a mouthpiece
Doubt they would have released this after Game 1 if Kyrie had hit that shot
It’s crazy that the media is allowed to just report things that are behind doors and affect a team like this

I don't think its meant to be a hit piece. It's just that people/media have focused on the one part of the article that feels bad and ran with it.
After reading the whole thing I feel good about the team and things moving forward. KD and Kyrie are both champions and all time great players. Of course they will have push back from the Nets giving them a "college-like" routine and scheduling after years of doing things a certain way.
As the article said, both sides are willing to meet half way which is a fantastic sign. So far Kyrie looks like he's bought in. KD as well, which i s a great sign. I expect the chemistry/relationships/trust to build over time, which is entirely normal.
As for Jackie Mac, she's actually one of the few Boston voices that said the Boston turbulence wasn't all on Kyrie and their was much more going on behind the scenes. She also spent a good amount of time around the team and has been in Brooklyn for the last couple months. I think she actually objective when it comes to this.

Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
I’m sorry but there was hardly any real objectivity in various parts to the article.
It’s misleading to be stating there were ‘empty seats’ in their home opener twice in this piece when the Nets have sold out several straight games dating back to end of last season and It’s kind of already been established that Barclays new check-in policy delays arriving crowds.
You also factor in a paragraph before that states the metrics of ticket sales since KD signed and the Stubhub Top 5 demand list...So, that was fairly lazy attempt to say “they are still the Nets” basically.

Presumably, there will be no empty seats when KD makes his debut. He's been at the facility nearly every day, rehabbing and chirping with teammates, offering input, letting his presence be felt. The Nets have not required his attendance; Durant made that determination all on his own.

It's not a hit piece at all. The part of the article that is being used as clickbait by BR and other outlets has been vehemently denied by Kenny Atkinson.
When you read the complete article it makes the Nets look good. I think the author is being bashed unfairly tbh

Opening night was a packed house. The Knicks game was playoff level atmosphere. The narrative is getting stale.

This is a non-story that gives all the Boston fans a chance to circle jerk about how bad Kyrie is and how he ruined their season last year.
Everything has been great with the Nets culture wise. Kyrie hate coming from Boston and their mouthpieces is honestly pathetic.
We all know Jackie Mac is a lapdog for Ainge.
Kyrie is the ex they can't get over.

Re: Official Welcome Home Kyrie Thread
It's so clear that this is a story the media is hunting for. They're basically planting it. Asking about moods and then selectively quoting the responses they get to other people trying to amplify the signal. The best they could come up with is that Ky may have become upset in China, at other times he may have been withdrawn, and there may be some staff who are concerned about his mood.
So he's hard to gauge and can be prickly? Sounds like one in every ten people to me. Only this guy can drop 40 on any night in the NBA like maybe 15 people in the world.

Overreacting, I really think things are positive with Kyrie.
Btw I Don't really understand what is " Shutdown " ?
The fact that a person want to be alone ?
