Ok. Thank god .. this was an exciting finish and probably best game so far seeing that we overcame such a deficit. What it showed is we do have the defensive pieces with Claxton back to close a game out. Ugly first half but great second.

I thought Clax made a huge impact. Glad he’s back. His defense when switched onto Luca changed the game. He could not get a clean shot over Clax. Clax has to work on those free throws though ouch
Glad Durant and harden woke up in the fourth. I thought that challenge by Nash was huge also. Made the game.
Sloppy through three quarters. I’m still worried about the offense, lack of. This team scored at will last year and it was defense that was the problem. Now it’s opposite. I think Marks changed too many players off the bench. We should have kept a guy like Tyler Johnson. Need another shooter.

Gonna give Steve Nash some credit here:
1) the challenge on the Harden strip of Luka. That was honestly the end of the game right there
2) using the Harden/Mills/Durant/Johnson/Claxton line up down the stretch. That was maximum length and able to switch on everything. Look at the point disparity in the 4th. We shut Dallas down.
Johnson and Claxton scrapped like dogs and KD, Harden and Mills got it going at the right time. The way KD and Harden figured out the double team from Dallas and moved the ball late was something they need to build off of.
We don't need 5 shooters on the floor at all times, but if the opponent is going to double KD, swing the ball to Harden. It's an easy score every time
Well, at least for tonight, I think we beat a good team. Not upper echelon obviously, but when you beat a team with a nuclear weapon like Luka, it's a solid win

Defense isn't our problem, especially with Claxton back. We need to figure out our offense. I saw some good things in the 4th when Durant and Harden started making high iq plays when the double team came. But it was still ugly

Joe Tsai needs to hire some goons.
Have em mask up, head down to South Orange. Catch Kyrie slipping outside of his home. Let them flash the burners at him and then put a Black sack over his head and force him into a van.
In the van awaits a nurse being paid a substantial amount of money to keep her mouth shut. She rolls up his sleeve, applies alcohol to his arm and injects him with the JnJ one and done vaccine.
Drive him back home, dump him off. In his pocket? A CDC vaccination card with the time, date, type and lot number of what he was injected with.
Problem solved.

Our supporting cast is so much better than last year. I can't imagine how good we would be with MVP level Harden and Kyrie.

Enormous win. First of a back to back on the road. Tommorow will be tough to win so we needed this one bad. Players did an awesome job fighting and coming back down 17. coaching was catastrophically bad. my thoughts:
1) Horrific coaching, its making it hard to watch these games. so many god awful coaching decisions, lack of adjustments just completely botched. obvious ones:
a) Up 3, under 20 seconds left, dallas no timeouts. you HAVE to foul there. they cant advance the ball and we are up +1 with the ball 15 or less seconds left.
b) WTF is nic claxton on the floor up 3, 35 seconds, our ball, in the bonus. Johnson was fouled so we had the ability to make the substitution. They were obviously going to double KD and harden and make someone else score. they were going to get johnson or claxton to shoot/foul them. Aldridge needed to be on the floor for that play. inexcusable.
c) Why are we auto-switching everything in the 4th. They ran 8 straight possesions where they got mills switched on Luka early in the shotclock and exploited it every time. this has constantly happened. I know mills hit a big three for us late, but either get bembry on the floor or dont switch that play. double luka t halfcourt to get it out of his hands if you need to. Dallas doenst have anyone who can create offense besides luka. giving him a mismatch one on one is a death wish
d) ATO's were terrible. we can get the KD mid range jumper whenever. why are we running an action for him ot get an elbow jumper our of a timeout, when our offense was stagnant as hell?
e) We use durant like a low level role player. 3 out of every 4 possessions he doesnt even touch the ball and is just standing in the corner. when he does touch it, its a super obvious mid baseline post up or pin down. 3 dribble mid range J. he is awesome from mid range. but we put 0 pressure on the D. we dont make them work or move. We dont force guys to help. we dont force confusion. we dont make teams defend. We dont generate quality three point attempts.
2) Bembry is a G
3) The infusion of tough, hard nosed players has had a great effect on this years team. Johnson and Bembry especially have been playing tough as nails on both ends. Carter hasnt found a role yet but he is pressing end ot end every minute he is in. Mills plays at 100 mph and hustles. Add brown/blake from last year and this team is galvanized from a toughness perspective. we dont win a game like this last year without guys like this.
4) Claxton provides so much floor spacing. without claxton/a lob threat on the floor teams can show help on both sides of the floor. there is no risk that someone will kill them on a dunk inside. We go 5 out, which spreads the floor, but we still dont achieve great space because its all jump shooters. teams pack it in at the FT line extended, which hurts us more then teams who pack the paint. we need that lob threat to force a defender to play honest at the rim and not play in space. that triangle and 2 GSW ran vs. us doesnt work with a lob threat. Glad to see nic is back and able ot give us minutes. it will be a big boost.
5) Harden looked good. I still think the criticism is overblown. the guy even with the new rules is getting to the FT line. he is putting up like 20/10/10 on excellent efficiency. he obviously has another level, but dude is still all-nba even just how he is playing now. he is consistently getting by his defender. thats the most important thing. finishing will come. consistency on his shot will come. throw more claxton in and it opens it up more for him.
6) KD isnt right. he isnt far off but the shoulder or something has him missing a ton of shots that are bunnies for him. hopefully its minor and thats why he is playing big minutes and not taking back to backs off. but, 24 points on 22 shots isnt KD. we need the coaching staff to get him open looks at 3 and shots at the rim. that jumper may take a bit to get back to being automatic
7) We some of the things cam thomas stuggles with on display tonight. His threes not dropping and taking reverse pivot YOLO shots early in the clock. not a concern. but for people knee-jerking, these are things he will need to improve to be the player people have him pencilled in to be,
5-31 from three (16%) is going to be tough to play for an offense first player. He can offset that getitng to the line, which he did great at LSU. like the energy he plays with, he has been a nice boost this last 2 weeks. but he;s gotta be better from deep.
8) Hard double team on KD continues to worry me. there is no way they doesnt show up on tape and in the playoffs, teams are going to try and exploit it. KD is always trying to get better, i hope we are self scouting and he is putting in work on it. he turns it over at a super high frequency on those plays and when he doesnt it there are some hold your breath moments with cross court passes with hands in the way. something to keep an eye on.

Almost all of dallas points down the stretch where exploiting mills being on the floor and brooklyns "switch all" defense. Luka abused mills possession after possesion either with a bucket or getting to the rim forcing help and passing for a wide open shot. dont switch mills or dont have mills on the floor there.

Props for playing Claxton. he had a big effect on both ends.
minus points for not adjusting to the forced swithc on mills/luka abusing it which happend for 8 straight minutes

If cameras wouldn't show KD everytime I wouldn't know if he's playing.
This. as i mentioned above. it seems like 3 out of every 4 possessions KD doesnt even touch the ball. having KD stand in the corner doesnt make the defense work, worry, or force help. even getting it to KD who kicks it back and we reverse it makes the defense move and shift focus a ton.
our offense is complete dog turd.
if we didnt have all world shooters, we might not break 50 a game

I didnt think they were in the Bonus. if so, then yea that makes a big difference since youre taking points off the board. at the same time, if thats the case, its also a no brainer challenge. props for actually making the obvious move, since thats not a given

He's a consultant for the Pelicans. Tsai should have paid Mike top dollar to come back, because Nash is f*cking lost without him.
I'm not gonna pine for MDA, it's water under the bridge and I was cool with it when he left. He wanted more say-so in terms of personnel and system, but he completely ignores defense. We needed to improve the roster defensively, which we did. That's why we're able to eek out some of these ugly games, our D has shown up this season.
Offensively, we're missing a ton, and it sucks. We'll be better when Joe returns, hopefully some folks will stop taking him for granted. I think its time to leverage the Dinwiddie and Jordan TPE's to bring in bigger contributors.
yeah i mean you dont need D'antoni to find a way to score points with KD/Harden/Mills/Aldridge and a cast of solid vet role guys. most competant coaches would have us top 1 in scoring

That was maximum length and able to switch on everything. Look at the point disparity in the 4th. We shut Dallas down.
Almost all of dallas points down the stretch where exploiting mills being on the floor and brooklyns "switch all" defense. Luka abused mills possession after possesion either with a bucket or getting to the rim forcing help and passing for a wide open shot. dont switch mills or dont have mills on the floor there.
You are overlooking what having Claxton, Johnson, and KD at the 5, 4 and 3 brought to the floor. That length is a huge reason as to why we won the 4th quarter 27-13.

1) the challenge on the Harden strip of Luka. That was honestly the end of the game right there

No. The challenge was massive. It swung the game in our favor by preventing a trip to the line for a god tier player like Luka
I cannot stand Nash dude. But i will not sit here and not credit him when he does good.

It isnt Claxtons fault. he shouldn't be on the floor in that situation. Johnson was fouled so we had the ability to sub. up 3 with 35 seconds left you cant have poor FT shooters on the floor. Clax was great, but needed aldridge for that possession.
