Well Thorn allready offered Diop a contract my guess is he goes elsewhere.
Hoping Boone is healthy for training camp help with team chemistry.
Nenad gets re-signed.
Swift might get packaged in a deal Swat may as well. Who knows Thorn
will be looking to deal this summer I think.
I like Brandon Rush as well would even trade up to get him. How tall is Hassell? Rush might be better at small forward I dunno.

Sorry man, Diop sucks. Horrible unless he is a 8-10 minute a game, situational guy for the league minimum or close to it.
Swift, not so hot either, just an athlete with no post game, poor defense, that doesn't like to pass much, who can block some shots off the weakside and make exciting highlight reel plays.
Neither of these guys are the "bigs" we have been looking for.
Matter of fact they aren't even the complimentary bigs we have been looking for. Boone is.
These 2 scrubs have no bearing on trading RJ for a standout 4/5.
Also I am not personally for trading RJ for any old upgrade at the 4/5, only for a major upgrade that makes sense on all levels and accomplishes something.
Such as at bare minimum making and competeing in the EC Finals.
I like Diop. I like Swift. I dont like how Frank plays them, but that is another argument. I really dont want another big because Krstic, Swill and Boone need playing time to develop. Get another big here it will not help there development.
I am for trading to rebuild and lose. Then trading to get a piece that only gets us to the first round. If anyone thinks we are going to be ECF cinderellas, you guys are kidding yourselves. We need to get ping pong balls for the next couple of years. I dont want to become the Knicks and think we cant rebuild. Get picks and become more like the Hornets and Blazers.

Why not use this one year to completely retool the roster and be a decent team again ? Which is possible .
With 3 Picks , Expirings and some young talent there's a lot of possibilities to get younger and good a lot quicker again , without sucking for ever .
Yes the Hornets and the Blazers are on the verge right now but how long took it for them ? 5-6 years ? Just look at Chicago , Memphis , Milwaukee , The Clippers . There are a lot of examples how easy it is to fail if you completely demolish your roster and suck . Because if you don't get lucky in the draft you'll never get out of your hole . If you have something build on it and later replace the older parts , don't completely demolish it .
Use your 1 down year to completely change the roster and start beeing better again . I like that idea way more . I don't want to do it the Knicks way with stupid FA signings or trades that completely kill Cap situation but a decent retooling is way better in my mind.
I don't want to swallow big salary just completely change the roster we've got too many no Offensense guys on our roster or guys that don't fit in.

RJ 24 wrote:If we get the Mav's 1st round pick this year and end up where projected (picks 9-12) and (20-23), I want-
1A- Anthony Randolph PF/C
1B- Brandon Rush SG
2- Joe Alexander SF
With this draft, I don't see a need for a major trade. Diop and Boki would not be resigned.
PG- Harris/Marcus
SG- VC/Rush/Ager
SF- RJ/Hassell/Alexander
PF- Nenad/Swift/Swat
C- Boone/Randolph
Not only will Josh have a great season under his belt, but Marcus will come in healthy and Swat will most likely be a more mature player. Rush will become that shooter that we have been needing since Kerry Kittles and Randolph will be that big presence in the middle. Alexander will battle Ager for that 12th spot on the active roster.
If we could somehow package Ager and Hassell for whatever we can get, I would do that, but I can't see a team giving us expirings for them. Trading Hassell will give us the option to resign Boki because I can't see them both being on the team.
Anthony Randolph is in no way shape or form a center. he can't even be a PF yet he's wayyyyyyyy too skinny.
I love Rush btw and would kill for him to fall to us with the Dallas pick.
BTW I think I'm just gonna change this threads title to our general draft discussion.

Whats with the stereotype that centers have to be buff guys. I know Randolph is only 220, but he is also one year out of college. He is a young guy, there is plenty of time to pack weight. There is a reason why teams have facilities with weight rooms.

I would be highly impressed if Randolph can put on the weight to go from a SF that he is right now to a Center over the span of a summer.
He's going to be a SF at the beginning of his career and then most likely end up as a PF kind of like how KG and Abdur-Rahim came along in their NBA careers

I'll tell you what, if you can get me Mayo and Kevin Love and maybe a decent young veteran for RJ and our 2 picks, I would be extremely happy.
Build for the future with those 2 guys, Boone, Devin and if we still had them after trades, S Will and/or Krstic.
If we are looking good, keep VC.
If not trade him midseason for expirings and picks or another young up and comer, and hope most of our guys pan out.
Kinda a Blazers of the East.
From the limited games I have seen of Mayo and Love(literally 10-12 each), I think these 2 really look like the real deal.
In a couple years a lineup of:
PG Harris
SG Mayo
SF VC if still here or whoever
PF Love
C Boone, Krstic or S Will
and a bench or Marcus, whoever we had left at the 4/5 and whatever other guys we draft we could have a serious team.
Hell, in the East, that team could even be playoff bound next year.
Well, whatever.
The anticipation is going to be driving me nuts until draft night, and then until the season starts.

I agree with you on taking Mayo and trading RJ for a lotto pick but I have to disagree with you on Love. We a;ready have too many PF's on this team, If we could get Mayo then I'd be willing to take Jordan as a good project with the other lotto pick.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will everyone stop with this ucking, "we have to many power forwards" crap.
God amn't.
Of all the PF/C's we have please take a closer look!
Diop, scrub role player, foul and a turnover waiting to happen.
Maybe resign him for a very low figure, for the simple fact he is good to put up against a KG or Duncan type for 10 minutes a game max.
Swift? - Scrub. Highlight reel athletic with no post game, no defense besides weakside shotblocking that winds up costing more buckets then stopping over a game. Not even that good a rebounder. Selfish, doesn't pass much and gets frustrated easily. Not going to get better, this is his 7th or 8th season.
Boone? Very solid. Double didgit rebounds waiting to happen. Solid shot blocker, but not a good man defender. Good B Ball IQ. Not a very good finisher, but yet has good hands. Not a good jumper or free throw shooter, but yet has good form. Not much post game. Solid passer, good athlete. Very good complimentary center or 4 next to an offensive minded one. 10 and 10 guy given 35-40 minutes a game. Not a star.
Krstic? - Double question marks. He was looking like an 18 and 8 career guy, with a nice post game, great outside jumper and good rebounding ability. Nice passer as well and had a lot of heart. Not a very good deffender, foul prone, but not horrible by any means either. Good mobility, and not afraid to mix it up, but no handle.
Now after the injury? Not so much. He can go any of 4 ways. 1.Get back on track to the pre injury Krstic. 2. Become a complete bust. 3. Middle of the road. 4.Becomes part of a trade and another team finds out first hand.
S Will - Loads of potential, straight up project, that besides his overall game, needs a lot of work bulking up and becoming less foul and turnover prone.
Am I forgetting any of these too many bigs you mentioned?
PLEASE. EVERYONE STOP THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason those teams failed/struggled for as long as they did is because of well documented front office incompetence and/or penny pinching owners. The track record of Thorn, more than proves that he is anything but incompetent.
Tanking is far from a guaranteed road to success, but the chances of success are better than you give it credit for, especially when you have a smart front office (which NJ has).

I do not trust the Draft and the drafting skills of our managment that much .Some of our recent drafts were pretty bad .
Trading is what Rod is good and he should stick with that .

I really like Batum. He is 2 inches taller than Rush and three years younger.
Personally, I think we could get both and it wouldn't be a problem. Mavs did it with Daniel and Howard back and the day and both turned out really well.
Our big man problems aren't going to be solved by youth so it's okay to take a gaurd and a forward.

Ok I seem to have a new favorite every week. Now I'm really hooked on Brook Lopez. Heres the question, How can we move up to get him but still hold onto the Dallas pick to hopefully draft someone like Brandon Rush.
I was thinking about trading RJ to a team with a higher pick than ours so it would be easier to move up to get him but what teams would want RJ?

I say either package them to move up, or draft two players that can fill an immediate need, especially if we package players outside of our core(which i consider to be Harris, Carter, Boone, Sean, and Curly to an extent) for an upgrade.
We are sitting good fellas. Enjoy the playoffs and cheer for some competitive ball, knowing our team is going nowhere but up
