Re: Trade Targets
Pau isn't capable of playing the 4 anymore, he can't do it next to Howard and he certainly can't do it next to Lopez. He'd be a terrible fit for this team. He needs to go somewhere he can he play all his minutes at the 5.

Who said the Nets can't? Humphries would be the only "long-term" salary that the Nets would contemplate trading for a player like Josh Smith, and that's all I meant by that. They're not trading Lopez, they're not trading Wallace, not Williams, and no one is touching Johnson.

Re: Trade Targets
I really have a hard time seeing Josh Smith coming here.
1) ATL wants to keep him
2) He's happy now that he has more of the spotlight with JJ being gone.
3) It's much easier for ATL to find a deal that is better than what we can offer and from the WC.
He knows that they're not going to win this year, but he's believing the hype that Danny Ferry is telling him that they can do a lot with cap space this upcoming year.
The Hawks would have to start sucking and sucking very badly for him to change his tune and I wouldn't expect something like that to happen instantly.

Re: Trade Targets
I'm still an advocate for Nene.
An efficient dude that knows his role and that (if healthy) does so many little good things that the aggregate value of him being on the court is tremendous.
And it really shouldn't that hard to get him.
1) Nene was almost going to come here in 2010 anyway, but the Nuggets offered a bit more money. Then they trade him away a few months after signing him lol.
2) Dan Fegan (Nene's agent and Hump's former agent) has a good relationship with BK.
3) Nene is rotting in Washington, doing good things that ultimately mean nothing because his team is basura.
4) Nene's contract is the biggest cap eating contract on that team. It would be advantageous for them to tank and get someone on a much shorter deal like Hump.
5) His deal ends the same time as the rest of the core in 2016. Not only will have a several major expiring deals that season, but I'm sure many stars would be pining to come to Brooklyn.
He can still post up, face up and take guys off the dribble, is fairly quick for a guy his size, and still throws down with power.
He's flat out better than Hump in just about every facet of the game.
Here's some of the most recent clips of him:

Some folks here are pretty goddamn delusional in regards to Gasol, but whatever. The Nets wouldn't be stupid enough to trade for him regardless, I just wanted to laugh at the very idea of trading for a washed up stiff and then putting him next to Lopez.

So the dude leads the Spaniards to the gold medal game not four months ago, and now he's all the sudden washed up? And we're the delusional ones? Jesus.

Have you seen him play? He's got a bum knee and can't move or lift anymore. He cannot play the 4, especially next to Lopez. Not that he was ever really a PF.

Re: Trade Targets
Somebody make a trade proposal to ship JJ out of here.
Trade him to a team desperate to become relevant and wants to make a pseudo-big splash with their fanbase.
Oh wait...

Pau at his best is better than anything we've seen in years. Right now he's got a combination of tired legs & deer in the headlights. Buying low on him with our extremely limited assets would be genius.
You can shut him down for a bit and start Reggie Evans. Let Pau get his legs back and by the time the playoffs comes around we got a battle tested big.
Right now hump is killing us with his mid-range game and his finish ability. He's leaving 10-12 points on the court every night.

10-12 points? i dont know about that one. he has hit that short jump with good consistency. he has gotten us some second chance points and is shooting what, 49% from the field? sure he is limtied offensively. but leaving 12 points on the floor? no way

Yeah, 'cause in his dreams, Amar'e ISN'T sidelined with an 80-year-old knee!
With the pieces we have, it doesn't get a whole lot better than Kris. Smoove might be attainable, but other teams might outbid. I'm not sure who else would shell out major assets for him, though, since he's on the last year of his deal. Remember, whomever trades for him is essentially paying for the Bird rights to re-sign him, so we're talking about winning, luxury tax teams. Clubs with capspace would opt to save their assets, and try to bid for him in the summer (unless they're taking advice from Billy King). How many lux-paying franchises need a PF?
-- The Lakers want him, but ATL isn't high on Gasol anymore.
-- CHI, GSW and BOS would need to send back long-term salary, something ATL wants to avoid.
-- The Spurs could make an attractive offer...
I don't know that Ferry will want to trade with us again so soon, but don't be surprised if Kris/Brooks/1sts is the watermark offer for Smoove after the All-Star break.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

You might be able to get the Spurs to trade the Hawks Stephen Jackson for Humphries, so the Hawks would get an expirer, but I'm not sure.

this just isnt based in reality. first off, you are saying their are 5 shots he misses per game that he SHOULD make... which, is mathematically impossible since he is only missing 3 shots per game. and even if you are saying those are 3 shots he SHOULD be making, you are now asking someone to shoot 100% from the floor.
get real.

He's passing them up in order to reset with Dwill. A wide open 15 footer is a beautiful shot in the nba. Your PF should be making that.

Yeah, it's actually quite annoying seeing him pass up those shots.
More and more PFs have developed a consistent 15ft midrange jumpshot, and it would be nice if we have a guy who can consistently make those and get us 2 points rather than restart the offense. It happened plenty of times last night.

Re: Trade Targets
It was also cringe worthy when he went iso a bunch of times last night.
IDK if Pau still sits atop my wish list, but he's still firmly implanted on it at some point.
Let alone if Lopez is injured, think about what kind of luxury it is to have a player like Pau or Brook on the floor at all times.
Any time one is in foul trouble or gassed, or just normal sub patterns, the other will be out there, along with always starting and finishing games together.
