Why does this sound to me like a five year old trying to explain the stock market?

He was 20 when he gave up on him.

I'm glad that Magic was short sighted like that.

Searching in this forum is a chore. I could have sworn we did a poll ranking our players/core but I can't find it. I did find a post of mine in 2017:

viewtopic.php?t=1592549

It's post 1009.

Nailed the Russell All-star potential. Unfortunately looks like I'm right with RHJ too (technically I missed since he took a nose dive into non-rotation player lol, even lower than where I had him pegged)

After thoughts: Harris and Dinwiddie, the remaining of our "reclamation" projects that's been retained.

Also not-so fun fact: we've had topics going on 2 years now asking "who is our starting 4?" Oof.

Nailed the "too many reclamation projects" comments too, as we saw vets like Ed, Carroll, DMC, and even Napier contribute heavily.

LMAO

Did a few more searches and the takes on Stauskas are hilarious.

Searching in this forum is a chore. I could have sworn we did a poll ranking our players/core but I can't find it...

Assuming I'm doing this correctly, the last poll in the Nets sub was posted in December. Search results:

https://forums.realgm.com/boards/search.php?keywords=%2Bpoll&terms=all&author=&fid%5B%5D=23&sc=1&sf=firstpost&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

That would be both official polls and hand-tallied polls. The criteria I used is simply the word "poll" appearing anywhere in the first post.

Unfortunately, google's archive of the site looks like a huge, unsearchable mess. Normally that's a great backup search method.

1) forum automatically formats / handles internal links uniquely

2) looks like that's not working for you on mobile (strange, since you're on the rGM app?)

3) I went back and forced it to display as standard URL

Yeah not sure why the links won't open on the app. But I did do a search for polls but I didn't find a topic name that seemed to immediately jog my memory that made me go "that's it! thats the thread!"

Man, Russell really proved me wrong. I liked him but didn't love him - he's done and said all the right things since he got here, he had a phenomenal offseason, he had some real skills. I still wasn't sure if it was enough. I just didn't see the star ceiling that everyone else was seeing. Somewhere earlier in this thread I was trying to be optimistic about Russell but the profile of a guard who's not athletic and can't get to the FT line just didn't fit the all star mold at all. Someone brought up Curry as a counter point and I just figured Curry was a whole different beast. Russell found a way.

Elite passing. Mid-range pull up that kills how most teams guard the PNR. Skyscraper floaters. Pull up 3s (especially on switches). The ability to get supernova hot. He's been cold blooded and he has A LOT of room for improvement. We all figured if he was going to get to all star level, he'd have to be at around 40% from 3. I could see that happening. With improved shot selection, he could easily be at 45-40-80 with 8+ assists. Kenny is the perfect coach for him because he gives him freedom but knows when to reel him in. Eventually, Russell is gonna find the perfect balance.

Big props to him for playing in 81 games this year. He said that was his focus over the offseason. Strengthening his body so he can handle the grind. Taking care of his body. Our team is great at that but ultimately, it's on him to eat right, go hard in the summer, recover, etc.

Also this year goes TOTALLY different from a team perspective if Russell pouts when LeVert started getting the media shine or if he pouted when he was getting benched for Dinwiddie. He could've soured the chemistry. Made it a competition. Turned things ugly. It's easy for a guy like Jared Dudley to be team first. It's not easy for someone with the expectations of Russell to be out there celebrating when Dinwiddie is taking his spot in crunch time. Not easy to respond when you're being benched for entire 4th quarters.

These are some of my favorite Russell games this year:

I haven't seen this mentioned recently, but earlier in the season there was consistent talk about DLo's 'lack of athleticism / physicality' being a specific liability when it came to drawing fouls.

Going by the eye test, it seems to me the last couple months he's indeed done a noticeably better job of that. In fact, checking the stats, DLo wound up averaging about a full FT better post-break (3.2) than he did before (2.3), on virtually the same MPG (30.5 vs 30.1).

Is that not progress?

Yup...he and Kenny talked about getting his body right and putting him on the right training regimen. Looks like it has paid dividends already.

Very impressed - and very happy for — D’Angelo. And Nets organization. Everything Marks and Kenny stand for, and have worked towards - clear for everyone to see today.

November: Marks shops Russell.

I don't remember that.

I know it's weird to Laker fans but Brooklyn has a GM that keeps negotiations out of the media

Well played. that guy is a Brooklyn fan. Not 100% sure what he's getting at though. I think he writes for netsdaily sometime.

Russell was never shopped. Talking heads speculated because we were rumored to be interested in Butler and supposedly LeVert was off the table.

Marks stated that no trade specifics were ever discussed with Minny. It was also reported that Thibs was fixated on a deal with Philly since he was in win-now mode.

Had to do it lol.

I think the team is just really private about that kind of stuff. I wouldn't read too much into it. I'd say it's 99% Russell comes back. Both parties are happy and the Nets FO stood firm on Russell's star potential even when some of us doubted him. Marks wouldn't comment much on Harris or Dinwiddie before we resigned them either.
