Lets say u guys get Melo in the next week or so and trade Harris and Favors whose going to be the starting PG do the Nets really like Farmar that much to have him start.

Melo is a Nuggest player with a contract so they DO have leverage. And an offer of Murphy and James is gonna get you nothing, get real.

That would be great. Farmar is good enough to fill in the starting spot if the trade happens but I would love to have Augustin as an option as well. The millisecond Carmelo says hell sign the extension the Nets should sign the papers. As 60 cent pointed out this makes the Nets a worthy spot for future free agents to look at and want to play for. It also improves the team immediately. I really have high hopes for Favors but we know Melo is a monster. Harris has been good but ill part with him for this deal 10 times out of 10. And we lose some draft picks but we already have the most of any team over the next three years. Melo is still very young he can accomplish alot.
If Melo signs an extension, unless we clear some cap, we are not going to sign a top free agent. The maximum we can get is probably the MLE, and you guys talk about CP3, how are we suppose to get him without any valuable assets?

And what can we give up for CP3 again after the majority of our tradable assets have gone to a team when it didn't need to?
CP3 and Deron will be free agents in 2 years and we still have a **** load of draft picks, James, Twitt, Outlaw and plenty of other tradable assest.
We are giving up 2 players and maybe a pick for 1 superstar. You're acting like we're trading the whole team.

Why not. Knicks went a season with Duhon and Douglas starting.

The one thing i would like the Nets not to give up is the GS pick. Just give our own picks. See, its easier to make the playoffs in the EC.

And Melo expires next year, he could easily leave the Nuggets with nothing in return and move on to a different team next year, that's barely 'having leverage' there.
An offer of Murphy, James, plus 1st round picks satisfies the 2 most important aspects of rebuilding, especially when you're about to trade your star:
Firstly, it gets you an expiring contract, so that some cap relief can be made.
Secondly, it gives gets you youth and potential talent.
This offer satisfies those criteria and is sure as hell a better offer than the Bulls and Knicks could offer.

2 years is still pretty far away, and look at it like this, if we keep Favors for example, would that make it easier for us to get DWill or Paul? And that's kind of my point. Why use the asset now when we don't need to, Chicago or the Knicks can not offer a better package than us, we could easily turn Favors as a the 2nd part of the recruitment of another superfriends.

And they sucked......
I don't really trust Farmar as the starting PG, if this trade does go down I hope he proves me wrong though.

Al_Iannazzone on twitter:
There is more to the Melo deal of course. In the proposed deal the Nets give up Favors and the Golden State 2012 No. 1 pick, protected 1-7..
They also send Devin Harris and Jarvis Hayes' rights to Charlotte and Quinton Ross to Utah and in return they get Anthony and DJ Augustin.

Re: Melo to Nets???
They didnt exactly have Melo and Brook starting next to them did they now?
New details on the proposed trade is that Hayes rights and Ross (2 zero min. guys) would be including and Auguistine would be in NJ. Only 1 pick the GS 1.
So
Melo + Augstine
for
Devin + Favors + GSpick + (Hayes and Ross)
Not giving up Murphy or Humph should leave a nice bit of cap for next year too.
Deal is not official incase anyone wondered, info from Iananzzone twitter.

Revolutionistt wrote:Talentfull wrote:This is a joke. Harris + Favors and I'm guessing our picks for Melo? Seriously King? Really gonna let us be stuck in mediocrity with no end in sight for 5+ years? I hope to God Melo doesn't sign that extension so this deal doesn't go through.
What is it with everyone in here and "stuck in mediocrity"??? The team thats put in place now wont even be able to reach mediocrity. Adding Melo now doesnt make the Nets an instant contender but it makes them a whole lot better and attractive for other players to want to play for. We all have high expectations for Favors, but what if he turns out to be the next Sam Bowie? I hope thats not true no matter where he plays, but its a possibility. Why take the chance on the kid when you can have the proven all star???
It's nothing to do with being stuck in mediocrity, it's more of, if we get Melo, we need another star to compete against the Lakers and Heat. This then makes it harder to acquire that because we will have much fewer attractive assets (assuming we trade Favors or Harris and the 1st rounders) and if NO are going to trade CP3, we will need some young prospects and attractive draft picks going the other way.
Basically, we can still offer the best package for Melo without having to give up too much and hat's the annoying thing. We can use Favors for example to lure in a CP3 or a DWill rather than Melo wou could be had for much less value.

Wow, I'd be quite surprised if they don't take Murphy, nonetheless we can easily take out Devin or Favors and we'd still have the best offer.

Re: Melo to Nets???
Well if this deal goes down, all the Thorn hate is going to make people realize how good he was, because IMO Thorn would have been able to get Melo without Favors.
If this deal goes down I'm going to be forced to trade my avi in for something along these lines...

Thorn and his (Please Use More Appropriate Word) contract for Outlaw are a big reason Nets need to involve 3rd and 4th teams. **** Thorn.

low risk and cheap idea to replace some of the beef up front nets will lose if they deal favors...balkman. i bet the nuggets would dump him. still has some potential, had a good showing with puerto rico, might be an avery johnson kind of player.

Btw, wasnt Philly rumored to be involved at some point with Iguodala, so much for Thorns magic trading ability. He should be trading bingo cards at the old folk house and even then i'm sure some younger buck would hustle the **** out of him.

Re: Melo to Nets???
Call me crazy, but with Harris + Favors going out in this proposed deal, what's the incentive for Melo to sign an extension? Hopefully, he doesn't sign an extension unless we take back one of them (which might collapse this trade at all).

We are going to have some serious three point shooting next year with this deal done. And this team has the potential to be better than the nuggets. Get it done.

Re: Melo to Nets???
I'm kind of mehh regarding this deal. We're getting absolutely robbed if we have to include draft picks along with Harris and Favors..
