Re: Should Billy King be fired?
Yeah, KD coming here? IDK about all that anymore lol.
But marquee guys will come.
We are still Brooklyn. The brand, the city, the rich owner who spends like a mad man and flosses hard.
Look at NYK.
They were LITERALLY the joke of the league for a DECADE and you still had marquee guys who wanted there, demanded there, went there.
Now the results have been predictably meh for them, I'm not saying the specific players that went there are great or that they're run well.
But I am strictly pointing out the fact that marquee star players still wanted to be there and got themselves there, whether they were overpaid or not, whether if they gave up a ton of assets to get a suspect franchise guy.
I can see it now, it will be a guy like Westbrook who makes his way here to be our Carmelo. A bunch of fans will start saying how Westbrook is the best point guard in the world and a lock top 5 player, we're gonna win a title, this and that and then bam, 3 seasons of 1st and 2nd round exits, a bunch of $hitty moves to surround him with other "star" players and we're shipping unprotected lotto picks for 3 years to 2 others teams, rinse and repeat.
They need a guy with vision in this front office or this team will forever be a hybrid of the Nets and the Knix.

No one wanted to play for the Knicks until they overpaid for Stoudemire. Then the stars were interested.
No one will give a damn about the Nets when the newness of the uniforms and the arena wears off. This franchise is done for.

Lol They had no cap space before that. So, nobody was interested for that reason.
Long as we're in NY we will have a chance at quality players like AK.

The effing MINUTE the KG/Pierce trade was announced, I knew it would be a turning point that would doom the franchise. How could you trade so many picks, unprotected ones at that, for OLD players?!
And what real superstar would want to join a team willingly with such a dumbass GM? The Nets are definitely screwed. It's over.

And to think, the height of the Billy King-era Nets will be a Game 7 loss at home to a Chicago Bulls team without Derrick Rose, Luol Deng, and Kirk Heinrich. Plus Joakim Noah was playing on one foot.

Remember being 12-70 and having hope for a brighter future?
New arena on the horizon. Stashes of picks. Tons of cap space.
Yeah, the future is here all right.
Hmmm. I still think a competent GM could save this franchise. I also think this season can still be salvaged.

Of course it could but we would need a good head coach and a savvy GM, we have neither.

Can we change the title to When will Billy King be fired?
I think the answer to whether he should be or not has been clearly answered without contest....
just a matter of when.

It's really unbelievable to sit and think that the Wallace trade actually will cost the Nets a decade of draft picks and probably a decade of NBA hell.

Trying to find a nets fan more pessimistic than you but it's difficult, and that transcends from Netsdaily to here. Why bother watching the team let alone wasting your time writing about them if you think the franchise is done for? Yes they lost to the best team in the NBA tonight although they played competitively for the half game I was able to watch. I'm still hoping Kirilenko comes back and makes a splash. It sucks Lopez is out and you hope that Blatche steps up. Billy King is a goner most likely at the end of this year, Kidd most likely the same. Either way we have an owner with the deepest pockets in the NBA. We will be fine, eventually.

Guys I feel like an idiot for defending this guy in the past.
I liked the trades he made, but I didn't think the pick swaps were a big deal. They were the BIGGEST deals. They ruined our franchise.
We are screwed.

When I saw the headline “Boozer named to Olympic Hoops Team,” I thought Vin Baker was headed to Athens.

Re: Should Billy King be fired?
Let us not forget, there were serious rumors King was about to trade our 13 pick on draft night for C.J. Miles as well.

Yeah. I heard this same bull **** from the idiots and thought police scumbags/paid mouth pieces of Brooklyn Nets of a website that will not be mentioned for years.
Funny how things ended up unfolding. But you remain optimistic. I'll regain some optimism when I start seeing people being fired, and players being shipped the **** out!

Re: Should Billy King be fired?
The East still has enough OTHER bad teams that if we play up to even half of our talent level, we should win some games and at least get back to .500 and make the playoffs, so that the season isn't a total waste.
But we really need Deron to step up and be a superstar again for the rest of the season. Not for a month, not for a few games here and there, but pretty much every night. He needs to get back to his Utah level on a consistent basis.
And we really need Pierce and KG to not play like they're about to retire. Play somewhat like you did last season, please please please please.
Oh, and the answer to this thread is "shouldn't have been hired".

We are screwed.
I basically quit the board because of how many people didn't think that the swaps were a big deal. Ran me off the board over something I found. Yes, me. I found it. All because Billy King and the Nets brass didn't want people and fans to know how truly awful the Joe Johnson deal was. And the mouthpiece that is BrooklynGame, or Devin whatever, laughed when I suggested that it was a big deal. Dude doesn't even know the CBA.
I'm taking credit for this crap.
With all that being said, things will shape up. If the Nets become sellers at the deadline (I don't think they will, I think they limp into the playoffs as the 8th seed), a competent GM can turn this around. Oh, wait...
