Best possible outcome, really surprised and pleased to see this. Just so important from a mental standpoint too. Hope for a speedy and a good recovery!

Caris LeVert of the New Jersey Nets suffers an injury during an awkward landing while contesting a shot. Looks like a right subtalar dislocation.

^ This was 16 hours ago and he called it a dislocation from the footage.
I didn't get the people describing the injury with details like, the foot was turned 90 degrees or bone was sticking out of the calf.
I watched the replays the other day, while partially covering my eyes and I did not see that. It reminded me of an episode of Doug, where people went to watch a horror movie, but no one was actually watching because they were too scared and started saying things that happened which didn't actually happen. And Doug, thinking he was the only one of the crew that was too scared to keep his eyes open during the movie, owned up to his fear, and went and watched the movie with eyes fully open and saw that the monster in the movie had a zipper sticking out of his costume.

I watched the replay again today, and it still puts knots in my stomach. glad he's fine though.

MrDollarBills wrote:And then there is also the mental hurdle. That was a very traumatic experience that he just went through. It may take him some time to get over any anxiety or fears that he may have so I wouldn't expect to see him come out the gates driving with reckless abandon like we're used to.

From watching the replay (which I don't wanna do again), it looked like that in LeVert's effort to make the play, he didn't think too much about his landing (and the possibility of getting tangled up). Sort of a D-Rose move.

I don't know if there's coaching tips for how to jump and land in scrum situations, but hopefully the Nets staff is on top of that stuff for the future. Jarrett Allen seems like another long, athletic guy in particular we don't want to see fall afoul of that stuff.

But I can't seem to remember many of Caris' drives where he looked unsafe. Hopefully he's in good shape on that end, both technique-wise and confidence-wise. Maybe it's the defensive scrums around the basket that are the trickier issue.

Anybody here know about this kind of thing...?

Read on Twitter

Didn't realize Darby had the same injury, but 8 NFL games would be right at two months missed - maybe a bit more with a bye week.

Tbh though, NFL guys ALWAYS come back sooner than any other athlete. My guess is 10 to 12 weeks with no setbacks.

medical report: dislocation 2 months

all jokes aside this is unreal news...

after last nights mood for the team this has to be a big jolt for them... and for Caris im sure his mindset was a year and having to work back to alright a few months and im feasting again. could be a nice rally point.

I'm no athlete, but it took me about 3 months to be able to play again iirc.

I'm so glad I didn't insta-drop him from my 2 fantasy teams. I was going to this morning though until I read the good news.
He'll be out for a long time, but I have good fantasy teams and I can manage him being on IL.

I'd agree with a 3-ish month timetable. There's no rush to bring him back right away, nor should there be.

Non-injury related, I knew he had worked out with Durant in the past. I never realized it was a recurring thing.

Everyone in Brooklyn knew LeVert had earned the right to take those last-second shots. While most players decamped for Los Angeles or various home bases in the summer, LeVert stayed at his apartment in Brooklyn so that he could work out with the Nets' coaching staff. He even let Tahjere McCall, a Nets G League player LeVert befriended during summer league, crash at his place all summer.

When he left Brooklyn in past summers, it has mostly been to train with Kevin Durant in Southern California. (Durant loves him.)
...

He found a YouTube video of Kyrie Irving standing under the backboard, practicing ways to spin the ball in off the glass from crazy angles. LeVert imitated Irving. He hoisted thousands of jumpers, and wrote out goals before the season: make 200 3s, shoot 40 percent from deep. Atkinson emailed him articles listing the top 10 shooters at LeVert's position, urging him to make the next list. Durant suggested he get more arc under his jumper.

I don't think LeVert & Harrington are enough to lure KD, but I don't see why people believe he's destined to be a Knick. I do think we garner some consideration this time around though.

If one of the top 2 FAs move (KD or Kawhi), you'd have to think they're taking somebody else with them. The question is who would their chosen #2 be (unless they go somewhere together)?

Durant suggested he get more arc under his jumper.

Really? I think he needs less arc in his jumper. He almost shoots rainbow shots every shot.

Holy cow I can't believe this ! I got so drunk last night because this injury messed me up and I passed out. I really cannot believe an ugly injury like that and it was nothing too too serious. I'm definitely buying his jersey.

Wow, after looking at that injury I can't believe there is no big damage and he won't even need surgery. He may play again this season. That is really great news after what seemed to be a horror story yesterday.

Not gonna lie, I was tearing up reading that Zach Lowe article. Thank god I read it after hearing the positive news about his injuries. The stories about Michigan not wanting to offer him a regular scholarship, his FaceTime with Kenny, doctors suggesting he not even fly to interviews - were too much for me to handle. Just a top notch guy on and off the court who deserves the chance to maximize his potential. I don't know what he'll do this year but he most definitely started getting the recognition he deserves around the league.
