Re: Brooklyn Nets 2017 Draft Thread
Not going to get worked up over speculation. Last year Simmons was #1 pick and Levert #20 yet I'd choose CL over Simmons 100%.
We don't know how players will be in the NBA until we do. Last management screwed us big time but it's sunk cost, we have no control over it.
I hope we have another solid draft like we did last year and continue rebuilding slowly. I don't see a Lebron/KD caliber player in this year's draft plus the Cs are still a meh team and the 6ers are just potential as of now. Not losing any sleep over their moves so far.

I know LeVert is a favorite here including me and all but there's no way in hell I'd choose him over a talent like Simmons in a draft like situation for a #1 pick. Simmons didn't play last season with a foot injury so that's an unfair point. We were LUCKY to get LeVert in the lineup mid-season and with no health scares. It doesn't mean he's a better prospect than Simmons because Caris could've easily been in the same predicament as Simmons. Last time I checked, nobody thought he was even worth being selected at 20. So, in a situation where he missed the whole season and Simmons did not...this thread would look like a ghost town.
I'm confident CL will develop into a all-star caliber wing in this culture and maybe even more barring good health but Simmons has higher upside until proven other wise. LeVert has great size but Simmons has the same skills at 6'10 and 240 pounds with less injury history and slightly younger. LeVert has a little ways to go before he can physically impose himself against the SFs and SGs in the East. Simmons does not.

there is nothing cant miss about simmons. fultz as well. both could end up just being fringe borderline 1 way allstars.
Yeah, there's a lot of coulda woulda shoulda come draft time. So what? Kyrie was a 5 game sample prospect. John Wall could've been a fringe all star too. He had no jumper. That has nothing to do with the facts.
The kid is beasting in workouts and hasn't been reported to shown any major weaknesses against his peers. He's gotten endorsed by guys like T-Mac. Professionals get paid to scout and most of the league believes he's going to be a perennial scoring guard.

Dunn was not as good as Fultz in college. He stayed another semester because he was a late first round prospect that got exposed as a TO machine in the tournament. He's a four year college athlete that gets by on athleticism but he lacks consistency shooting. His jumper is kind of ugly. He was never a true lotto talent. Then, he gets drafted to a team with a starting PG with an average of 18 minutes per game.
Dunn - 12 PPG, 5.8 Asts, 5.3 Rebs / 45% FG / 35% 3pt / .531 TS% / 23.3 PER in 4 seasons at Providence. He's 22.
Fultz - 23.2 PPG, 5.9 Asts, 5.7 Rebs / 47% FG / 41% 3pt / .558 TS% / 27.9 PER in 1 season at Washington and he's only 19.

you are moving the goal posts... you said he wa great in workouts i pointed out dunn was as well and that meant nothing
plenty of college players who tore it up ended up not to do much in the pros (mayo, beasley come to mind)
im not saying fultz wont be good, but he certainly isnt "cant miss" he could miss.

You are the only here that loves to move goal posts. What does Mayo and Beasley have to do with anything? They both were known to be possible headaches from day one. It wasn't a question of talent either.
Markelle Fultz is a high character kid that has a similar upbringing to LeVert who lost his dad. I don't see a comparison whatsoever. Karl Anthony Towns was a can't miss prospect. People expected him to dominate early and he did just that. A can't miss prospect is a kid that has a great head on his shoulders to match the talent, IQ and major upside.
Mayo and Beasley were never prospects teams would tank their ass off for. It was Rose and Rose only.

now its about charecter... but im the one moving goal posts?
fultz should have a solid career. but to call him some "cant miss" pick is simply wrong

Simmons is going to be one of the best players of his generation...I love LeVert but lets be real here. We got lucky.

Prok, I'm going have to respectfully call you out here.
1. You didn't show me a thing. You have absolutely no rebuttals to anything I just said. Your Dunn-Fultz argument has no point because like I said, Fultz was a better prospect than Dunn to begin with. You can't argue that but somehow showed me college stats were "unreliable" .
2. You just threw a random comparison of Beasley and Mayo as prospects who didn't pan out after a great college career...When we all know they both were headcases to begin with and both are repeatedly violating the drug testing policy. Meanwhile, we all know Rose went #1 and was a can't miss prospect back then coming out of Memphis. You are entitled to an opinion but it is not a fact. A 'solid' career is an opinion. Not a fact.
3. Beasley went #2 in 08 and was still regarded as a immature kid with a lot of talent. Yes, character matters. Beasley wasn't a bust because he couldn't play basketball. He just simply didn't want to be great and everything was a joke to him.
Find me anything or anybody that says Fultz is going to be a lazy player that smokes weed all day. Most look at Jackson and Ball as the highest potential disappointments out of the 3.
Please get back to me with an actual insightful response next time.

This is more a case of comparing apples to oranges, not moving the goalpost.

I really don't get what the Celtics are doing here. They should be trying to win it all now. Seeing how badly they were beaten by the Cavs and how easy the Dubs won it, this current Celtics team can't win it all as configured. They then have all these assets that won't get the necessary time to develop properly over the next 3 years. They're not good enough to really compete but too good to give rookies the minutes they need. They are trying to have their cake and eat it too and I really hope it blows up in their face.

Ainge is loading up the bag to offer a massive package to either Indiana or Chicago for George or Butler.
Ainge will hold onto our pick and will root for us (again) to win 20 games so they can land another number one pick. Most likely taking one of the bigs that 2018 draft will have to offer. For example, the bigs in '18 are DeAndre Ayton, Mohammed Bamba, Micheal Porter Jr. Two legitimate 7 footers with defensive upside or the luxury of drafting a Isaiah Thomas replacement. He will have some options...Luka Donic, Collin Sexton or Kevin Knox.
He will likely flip their pick and any of the Clippers, Grizz or Kings picks to acquire another star or a high pick for 2021-2022. Continuing to retain assets.
By then, in this best case scenario the Celtics have a core of...2017 3rd, Brown, George or Butler, 2018 pick, among others.
I can't even hate on that. It's great asset management and he's doing it at a better rate than Daryl Morey. Same concepts as Hinkie but he simply has a franchise that will never accept that much losing to achieve success.

If Ainge can turn the 3rd pick and next years Lakers pick into Jimmy Butler or PG than awesome. But I think he's being greedy. I'd give up this years 1st and the Nets pick next year for Butler, then get in Haywood's ear and talk him into playing on an unbelievable stacked eastern conference team being coached by his college coach. If Ainge can keep our '18 pick and still get a group of IT, Haywood, Butler and Horford then he is a genius. If the Bulls and Pacers don't bite because the picks aren't as good as they want them to be, I'd be disappointed as a Celtics fan.

The Celtics dont get both '18 Lakers and '19 Kings picks, they only get one of them. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lakers went much better than bottom 5 next year. They were only 6 games away from doing just that this year even though they tanked their ass off over the last 3rd of the season, they will add the 2nd pick and the majority of their roster should improve as they age.

The thing about the Lakers is their conference is also getting better.
New Orleans, Minnesota, Denver, Portland, Phoenix will all get better after Thursday and all of those teams have a very realistic chance to compete for 7th and 8th seeds next season. That leaves Dallas, Sacramento and ??? as the bottom three teams.

Re: Brooklyn Nets 2017 Draft Thread
Hate to say it, but I like it for the Celtics. Credit where credit is due.
They have done their full due diligence on Fultz and are probably not this enamored with him as they have hoped so for months. At 3, they can get a player they apparenly like better anyway in Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum and basically a great asset in either the Lakers '18 pick or the SAC '19 pick "for free".
I can see the reasoning behind this for Philly, but I wouldn't have done it. Glad we have Marks instead of Colangelo.
Back to the Nets draft:
I have mentioned him before and seen others posting about him recently: Jonah Bolden. DX has uploaded his full video scouting report.
Despite the analysis of weaknesses, I still really really like him. I rather take a big who is able to throw some special passes you don't expect from a big and bet he is able to cut down his turnovers later on with more experience. His effort doesn't seem to be there all the time, but maybe he just needs to be more challenged on the court as it would be the case in the NBA. His shooting stroke is super effortless and quick. His length is off the charts combined with lots of athleticism. And even his ballhandling is pretty good for a big man. In a league where you want players to do a bit of everything and become all-around players, I can see him having a good and very long career. The Ringer's Jonathan Tjarks even has him at 16 in his recent mock draft update.

Great analysis of his skills and how they perfectly fit into the current NBA.
Edit:
Coverage of his pro day:
Moreover, here is the recently uploaded breakdown of Isaiah Hartenstein:
