Why is this team perpetually bad at FTs?

A lot of rawness too though. DJ and Green are the only true bench vets. Young depth is full of surprises good and bad. Vet depth gives you consistency.
Lets not forget we were missing Levert today. That puts Dinwiddie back on the bench.
And Shamet has a ton of experience too.

Nash was non committal on Caris starting. Mentioned he could take a Manu role.

Maybe Levert on the bench and start Shamet? I think we would be too small.
Otherwise we could start Prince and move KD back to the 3? I don't think that makes sense either.
I think Levert will probably start.

I would probably start LeVert tbh. It really doesn't matter because our first unit is unstoppable as long as KD and Kyrie are on the floor.

I remember one ball screen but clearly I hope a reporter brings it up to the coaching staff to start implementing and experimenting with it.
Could be like Nash/Stoudemire 2.0 but with a different flavor. Could turn into our go-to last second shot play

I kinda liked Dinwiddie with the starters.
Dinwiddie was +11 for the game, but -13 in the 2nd, meaning he was +24 in the 1st and much with the starters.
Let Levert run the 2nd unit. The team struggled in the 2nd without a go to scorer.

**** the reporters. Nash and D'Antoni should be looking at the tape. KD/Kyrie PnR should be the #1 play.
I really don't think that the Nets showed any of their plays tonight. The offense was fairly vanilla and we still saw how ridiculous our firepower is.

Agreed, Dinwiddie actually looked fine out there with the starters, even though he didn't make any 3s. But he works well as a 3rd option next to those two guys.Trader_Joe wrote:I kinda liked Dinwiddie with the starters.

Interesting game. Preseason is always weird but since we only have 2 and we have a brand new coaching staff, I was wondering what kind of changes we'd make + what rotations would look like.
- Kyrie and KD looked awesome. That's all I needed to see. KD got to the line. Got to his spots. Got a couple of blocks. Kyrie is just ridiculous. Probably would've dropped 50 if it was a real game.
- Rotations were a little weird. No Bruce Brown even though LeVert was out? Reggie Perry got extended run in the 1st half. Unless we're just experimenting, my guess is we might use him more than expected. He's our only center that can shoot. Jeff Green was basically the backup 4. Prince mostly played the 3. Maybe the goal was just to get everyone 10-20 minutes, so none of this matters.
- Defense was a lot more aggressive than Kenny's scheme. JV did a lot of different things in the bubble but this stuff seemed new. Lots of switching. Centers were higher up. Didn't feel like we were conceding mid-range shots - which is dangerous if that turns into open 3s or open dunks. VERY dangerous. Our centers need to be on point for this too work.
- Dinwiddie looked great in the starting role. His ability to get to the line just really makes the lineup fit. He needs to stay aggressive and not defer to the stars too much. We need KD to come along slowly.
- Last thing, offense looked different than last year - obviously. Should be interesting to see how it progresses. Didn't feel like we were very sharp on that end - even when we were cooking. 1st game is always full of nerves and conditioning issues - so I'm not worried at all. Just want to see what it looks like at full strength. We can PNR all day with 7-11 but that's a heavy burden on both guys.

While I would rule anything out in terms of what could happen with Allen, I wouldn’t read anything into minutes distribution in these preseason games.
Sure, Jarrett isn't losing his spot in the rotation to Reggie. Allen is over-qualified for his current backup role. BUT, in a contract year with an untouchable FoK in front of him, he certainly looks like trade bait. Having quality, playable young pups like Claxton and Perry to soak up PT helps to make JA expendable.

Yeah, I'm not thrilled with this FoK situation. I get that he's a locker room leader. Why can't he do that as the backup? There's no other contender who's starting as middling and... limited a center as DJ.
I am disappointed that Jarrett didn't come into this game with a chip on his shoulder, he should be FURIOUS that he isn't starting and he should take out his aggression on the opposition. Instead, he looks too comfortable shackled to the bench. If he had 5% of the grit that Bam has, he'd be an All-Star. He should make the coaches look ridiculous for not starting him. He should feel like this is HIS team, even though it isn't. Instead, he's writing his own walking papers.

He'll have to improve his shooting is probably what it is. Nash, Kyrie, Joe are the players to take tips from. Those guys snipers that took their games on another level. It'll be tough for him to get min but he'll definitely get his pt. I think he can give Sham run for his money.

There's some very good vibe that this team showing right now. I think coaching is our x-factor that'll make or break this season for us. Players came out with a lot of hype and confidence, I love it.
